Please read these Monday Newsletters each week as IMPORTANT and all relevant information about the school, your children's classroom activities and the functions at the school will be written in it.
This newsletter is a very important form of communication.

 Our school cell: 079 408 2575.
This phone can be used mornings as well as afternoons.

WISHING ALL OUR MUSLIM STAFF AND FAMILIES EID MUBARAK.
Saadiqah, Elraine and Aneeka will be celebrating today with their families and will return to work tomorrow. Thank you to Mastoera who will be looking after the Penguin Class and Monica who will be with the Sea Horse Class today.

AFRICA A+
Wow we had a super team building morning here at school on Saturday. We tapped into our creative sides and had loads of fun exploring art, painting and drawing with different art tools and waste materials and media. Our creations are up around the school. Have a look at what we came up with remembering that we started with a blank piece of paper!!!!!!!!!

Creativity being the centre focus of the morning and awaking in us the need and necessity to encourage creativity amongst the children. We came up with many new ideas and ways to promote and encourage creativity in our school with our children. Creative thinkers are the necessity of our times!!!!!!

Jane is off this week and will only return to the office in the second week of next term. I will be in the office as well as Kay who is coming in to answer the phone this week and during the first week of next term.

HOLIDAY CARE IS AVALIABLE AS USUAL FOR THE JUNE/JULY HOLIDAYS.

R100 for full day.

If you have any questions or need to contact the school:
JO BAIILEY WILL BE HEADING UP HOLIDAY CARE DURING THE MORNINGS: 076 4128157
INGRID RIX WILL BE AT SCHOOL FOR THE AFTERNOONS: 083 5053451
(Assistants and Stay and Play staff will work on a roster basis throughout the holidays)

TERM 2 BEGINS ON MONDAY 24TH JULY 2017

Keep safe and enjoy the holidays with your families and your children.
YOUR CHALLENGE FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be creative and get back to basic guys!!!!!
Let’s encourage our children to build forts with the lounge with blankets and pillows and the dining room chairs!!!!
Play card games and set up large puzzles on the kitchen/ dining room table to complete throughout the holidays!!!!

If you want to help children develop creatively, then give them an opportunity to explore the world without a house full of toys!

If you provide them with a toy for every occasion, then how can they possibly learn to use their own creative imaginations?

-Give them some time to invent their own lasers, rather than buying them cheap toys that they will come to rely on.
-Allow them to make their own clubhouse, rather than having it pre-built out of cheap plastic.
-Let them learn the joy of building their own swords, rather than buying them battery-equipped toys that send off electronic lights to destroy their imaginary enemies.
-Allow them to invent their own games, rather than always buying them games that they soon tire of. In other words, give your child an opportunity to use his or her creative genius, rather than supplying it courtesy of a manufacturer.
-While you are at it, turn off the television for several hours each day and encourage the children to get outdoors and get involved with life. If you fill up all of their movements with gadgets and programmed entertainment, you are dulling their senses and teaching them to rely on someone else in order to make their lives fun and interesting.
-Allow them to express their creative urges by letting them have free rein without a large supply of toys and gadgets.
-A child who watches television all day long soon thinks that television keeps him from being bored. In reality it is causing boredom. The creative child needs to learn to take care of his own needs and never know boredom. Certainly some television is not harmful, but when you consider that the average child spends far more time just watching commercials than he does in creative enterprises, you might just want to consider allowing your child to rely on themselves more frequently.

While toys are wonderful, they are not the source of creativity. The application of the toys and the ability to invent one’s own toys are the true marks of a creative child. Be creative when buying gifts. Get them logs and blocks that they can use to build their own castles, art equipment and blackboards to make their own creations, or puzzles and books that will stimulate rather than dull their creative urges. You make a big difference in a child’s creativity, simply by the purchasing decisions you make, so use your own creativity to its maximum when shopping for children.

SPEECH THERAPIST
A group of 4th year UCT Speech and Language Pathology students completing their final year Thesis, would like to include Fish Hoek Pre-Primary in their study.
Their research focuses on speech development of four year old bilingual or trilingual children learning English in Cape Town.
If you are happy for your child to participate, consent forms are required. Parents will not be charged for the assessment. Should a speech delay/difficulty be detected, necessary referrals will be made. In addition, feedback will be provided to all parents regardless. Please note that all information obtained will be kept confidential in the report and publication of the research study.
Please let your teacher know if you do not want your child involved in this research study.
The students will be here on Wednesday to assess the children with consent forms.

WORMS! WORMS! WORMS! AND WORM TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have some deliciously fat worms in our wormery at school as well as worm tea that we would like to sell or swop for some vegetables for our veggie garden or plants, particularly cacti for the bed at the front gate.
We are having trouble with vagrants sleeping in the flower bed and need to plant some ‘spiky’ plants to deter them.
Please come and chat with us in the office if you have an interest in the worms.

FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.

WANTED
WE HAVE PLENTY OF NEWSPAPER ONLY DRAWING PAPER NEEDED PLEASE! ALSO PLEASE NO MORE EGG BOXES FOR A WHILE WE HAVE PLENTY!

Thank you to those parents who have brought in paper for us. Please continue to bring it in.
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

Please make contact with Phyllis if you have any fee related questions. (accounts@fhpps.co.za)

Some bread with the soup would be wonderful too.
We have a roster on the notice board. Please fill it in on a week that will suit you. We require 4 x 2 litre containers each Wednesday, so two people could provide on one day. If you do not have containers please fetch ours from the office a day or two before.
Vegetable soup is the best option for the children.

EQ: We will discuss and recap themes focusing on being People and Self Smart
General:  Same/ Different and Old / New
Language:  Letter K k Kangaroo, kettle, kennel
Math: Revise all concepts

The class thoroughly enjoyed the pyjama day. Thank you for sending in games. The children found them interesting and were eager to play them. I encourage you to play games with your child as it develops concentration, maths skills and the important social skills of waiting your turn and accepting that you can't always win and that it is fine to lose.
This week in EQ I will recap the various themes we have been discussing. The topic of stranger danger arose and we spoke about feeling safe and being safe. We mentioned that at school we have many adults to go to for help and if you ever feel unsafe you just need to go to an adult as quickly as you can or call for help. In shops you can go to the people at the tills and in restaurants to the waiters. It is an important topic but it has to be handled carefully as one does not want to make children feel concerned or scared.
We will be looking at pictures of clothes, transport and appliances and comparing them through the ages. We will discuss inventions such as the telephone, electricity and engines and how they have helped us. We will discuss the similarities and differences in the modern object and the old object.
Our last letter of the term is Letter K. Thank you for helping your child bring things for the table. During the holidays please continue to make your children aware of writing and print in the environment and in books and magazines. Please also get them to identify numbers and make them aware of numbers that are smaller/ bigger and discuss the concept of many and few.
Father’s Day on Friday 30 June . The children have been counting down the days to Dad's Day at school. I hope you can join us for an hour or two between 8-15 am and 11-30 am. Please remember to bring sausage to braai and share. If you eat Halaal food or are vegetarian then keep your food separate as their will be a special braai provided for you.
We wish you all a wonderful winter holiday. If you are travelling, be safe and take care on the roads.
Blessings Dee and Merle.

EQ:  Solving difficult problems with friends
IQ:  Transport and Road Safety
We had such a wonderful "creativity" team build on Saturday with our FHPPS staff.  Thank you A+ schools!
I can't believe we have come to the end of Term 2.  We have so enjoyed seeing how much our Starfish children have grown and developed in these first 6 months.
We will be discussing "Transport and Road safety" this week, along with "solving difficult problems with friends".  Please encourage your children to bring factual/story books to do with transport.  They are welcome to bring any transport items to school to show their friends.  Maybe they have a wonderful crane-truck or fire-engine.  I will keep them safely on my shelf and use them during morning ring.
Please continue to play number games and other games during the school holidays to consolidate all we have learned this year.  Encourage them to use their gross and fine motor skills by taking them to the park or playing ball games with them.  Encourage them to make tents using blankets and pillows etc.  Encourage them to be creative by making things.  The library is always lovely for "Story-time" or encouraging them to choose their own books.
Please remember "Dad's day" at school on Friday 30 June.  All children to bring sausage, which the dads will cook.  If dad is unavailable please organise someone to take his place or keep your child at home if they will be upset.
Reports will be handed out this week.  If you would like to see me after receiving your child's report, please chat with me.
This Friday 30 June is break up day until Monday 24 July.  We wish you all a wonderful and safe holiday.  Enjoy sleeping in and spending quality time with your children.

We love sharing pictures from the school day. Teachers only put photos up on Facebook once a week. Any parent who does not want their child’s photos to appear on Facebook should let their teacher know. www.facebook.com/fhpps.

And on that note...

A dad is patient, helpful and strong
He is there by your side when things go wrong
He’s someone who guides you to do the right thing
And helps you solve problems that life sometimes brings.
