Employee Spotlight: Carla Jarman

"My greatest joy with work is spending time with my boys and being able to discuss the business with my husband. It's been wonderful to watch our boys take this business from a small-business to the amazing business that it is today!
Carla Jarman, Office Manager

Early Years
The daughter of a Canadian prospector father and a German immigrant, opera singing, mother, who only spoke German, Italian & French, Carla Jarman was born and raised in Northern British Columbia, Canada.
Her parents met at the Chinese restaurant where her mom worked. Carla's not sure how her folks communicated with the given language barriers, still, they fell in love. She shares that her mother sacrificed a lot, to stay in Canada and raise her family in the rough and tumble frontier culture of 1950's BC.

Marriage, Family, and Citizenship
Carla left home at the age of 17. She then met and married the love of  her life, Jason G. Jarman and later moved to Auburn, WA in the late 1970's. Carla's two oldest children were born in Canada, and her three younger children were born here in Washington. Curiously, Carla became an American citizen in 2016! After living in and loving the USA, for more than four decades of her life, she decided it was time to attain citizenship. Up until 2001 border crossings had been the easiest part of the arduous 14 hour drive to visit her Canadian relatives. Now, citizenship helps with travel.

RCH Employee #2
As a homemaker, she watched her husband's career transition from the iron working industry to hands-on learning about residential construction. And, in 1994, when Jason founded Rainier Custom Homes, Carla became RCH's second employee. Through her 23 years in role as office manager and book keeper, Carla shares that she absolutely loves book keeping! Her perspective on RCH's success and growth stems from the foundation of Jason's meticulous care about making sure each and every client received personal attention and is happy with their finished project. She loves the fact that RCH experiences a high rate of return clients and client referrals. To her, it means clients were happy with what RCH was able to do for them. For her, It's wonderful to be able to fulfill a client's building dreams.

Outside of Work
Vacationing in Hawaii is always tops on her travel list, though she also thinks Europe sounds good. And when she's at home, she likes gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. What Carla particularly likes about the Pacific Northwest, is the weather, especially in spring: "
What a glorious thing it is to not know from one minute to the next what the day will bring. I love the rainy days, the overcast days, the days that can be spent curled up in a chair, reading. I love the sunny days that are so appreciated and gorgeous because of the rain. I love the early mornings, out in the yard in the summer. I love the fact that we live 2 hours from the ocean, 2 hours from the desert, less than an hour from Mt. Rainier. I love the forests, the rivers, the lakes and that it is so amazingly green here. When I first moved here I was overwhelmed with the multitude of flowering bushes in the spring. You definitely don’t get that in Northern BC."

Carla, we are so glad to work with you on the RCH team! Your joyful character, enthusiasm with bookkeeping and excellent business management is a foundational example to us all!
