Call for articles European Geologist Journal: Geology and a sustainable future
The Editorial Board of the Journal of the European Federation of Geologists invites you to submit articles for the 44th issue of the journal. The theme of this issue is “Geology and a sustainable future”. We expect contributions related to the topic. Please send your article proposal (name of the author(s), working title of the article and a short abstract of about 10 lines) by 15 July 2017 to the Editor-in-Chief (eva.hartai@eurogeologists.eu) and cc to staff and layout editor Anita Stein (anita.stein@eurogeologists.eu). The Editorial Board of EGJ will decide about the acceptance of the article proposals and selected articles shall be submitted in their full version by 15 September 2017. The articles will be peer reviewed and also reviewed by a native English speaker. You may find the guidelines for authors at http://eurogeologists.eu/journal/.

EFG’s upgraded Code of Ethics:
a constant work towards an ethical European family of Geologists
Conscious that a set of principles only grows stronger the more it reflects the profession’s as well as society’s realities and changes, the EFG makes a point of constantly upgrading its “Code of Ethics” and presents now its newest version that includes an amendment (see paragraph 12) relating to the working environment. This updated version was unanimously approved by the EFG Council whose membered all agreed on the necessity to align with recent initiatives taken by several scientific societies. With this updated “Code of Ethics”, EFG therefore joins other scientific societies in taking a strong stand in favour of a respectful and safe working environment.

The Top 12 photos have been displayed during the 79th EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition (12-15 June 2017, Paris, France) and will be shown at other EAGE and EFG events in summer and autumn. | Read more



EFG projects | ¡VAMOS! Market Survey
As part of its efforts to extract more raw materials within the EU, the European Commission has funded the ¡VAMOS! project to design and build a novel underwater mining excavation system for flooded inland open-cut mines.
As the project approaches the site-testing and post-trial analysis phase, the consortium would like to ask experts in the mining industry for their impression of the concept and its applicability. Following this link, you will have access to an anonymous 5-minute ¡VAMOS! Market Survey, where you will be able to send your feedback as well as register your interest in an upcoming open-day.

EFG projects | CHPM2030 releases new project brochure
The CHPM2030 project is defining a technology pathway that could substantially decrease Europe’s dependency on both the import of critical metallic minerals and of energy. The project aims at new concepts coupling the production of geothermal energy and metals and thus improving the economic viability of EGS projects.
