Cristina has been bestowed with the Castelao Medal, the greatest distinction presented by the Galician Government to honor the people and institutions that have created exceptional works in the arts, culture, literature, science, or in any other field that is worthy of distinction.
The award ceremony took place, like every year, on June 28th, commemorating the return of Castelao's remains to Galicia. In her acceptance speech, Cristina defended the strength of Galician cultural identity, which makes it a nation proud of its values, and the need for it to become the engine of social, political and economic development. Memory: An Interdisciplinary Exploration. From August 7 through September 16, Professors Ken Kosik (Neuroscience) and Kim Yasuda (Arts) join Cristina at the University of California Santa Barbara to introduce students to the cross-disciplinary field of memory studies and demonstrate how different disciplines approach common questions. Its approach is motivated by Cristina and the musical composition and story that her mother’s dementia inspired. They will investigate issues ranging from the neuroscience of memory to the ways in which the arts, architecture, and literature express cultural memory, as well as the roles the arts may play in treating memory loss conditions.
The course is supported by the generosity of John and Jody Arnhold.

Cristina was also present in spirit at least, in the Rexenera Fest in Carballo, where Laura Tova made this delightful stencil illustration out of the iconic photo by Erin Baiano that was featured in the Latina album cover.

 On June 6th, Cristina performed with Yo-Yo Ma and fellow members of the Silk Road Ensemble Johnny Gandelsman and Shane Shanahan, and New York Philharmonic musicians in Alan Gilbert's Farewell concert which has been critically acclaimed. Here are some quotes:

Back in Europe for her Summer Tour, Cristina performed with her TRIO (Roberto Comesaña Rodriguez e Miguel Cabana) in Nuremberg, at the Galician Center, on June 24. On June 20 and 21, Cristina participated in a conference titled "A Industria Cultural Galega no horizonte 2025" (The Galician cultural industry in 2025 horizon), hosted by the Consello da Cultura Galega. On July 13, Cristina will share the stage with Galician hip-hop singer Wöyza in "Os Xoves de Codax" at famous Galician winery Martin Codax, in Cambados.

Cristina Pato foi distinguida coa Medalla Castelao, a honra máis importante outorgada pola Xunta de Galicia, para homenaxear a obra artística, literaria, intelectual ou de calquera outro tipo dunha persoa ou institución galega.
A cerimonia de entrega celebrouse, coma todos os anos, o 28 de xuño, en conmemoración do regreso dos restos mortais de Castelao a Galicia. No seu discurso de recollida, Cristina reivindicou a forza da identidade cultural galega, que fai de Galicia "unha nación orgullosa dos seus valores", e a necesidade de que se convirta no "motor do desenvolvemento social, político e económico". Memory: An Interdisciplinary Exploration (Memoria, Un Estudo Interdisciplinario). Do 7 de agosto ao 16 de setembro, os profesores Ken Kosik (neurociencia) e Kim Yasuda (artes) xuntaránse con Cristina na Universidade de California Santa Barbarapara introducir os estudantes ao campo dos estudos multidisciplinares sobre memoria e demostrar como diferentes disciplinas se achegan a cuestións comúns. O enfoque do curso está motivado por Cristina e a composición musical e historia que a demencia da súa nai lle inspirou. Investigarán temas que irán dende a neurociencia da memoria até o xeito no que as artes, arquitectura e literatura expresan a memoria cultural, asi coma o rol que as artes xogan no tratamento da perda de memoria.
O curso está apoiado pola xenerosidade de Jody e John Arnhold.

Cristina Pato, Medalla Castelao 2017: "una nación orgullosa de sus valores."
Cristina Pato ha sido distinguida con la Medalla Castelao, el honor más importante otorgado por la Xunta de Galicia para homenajear la obra artística, literaria, intelectual o de cualquier otro tipo de una persona o institución gallega.
La ceremonia de entrega se celebró, como todos los años, el 28 de junio en conmemoración del regreso de los restos mortales de Castelao a Galicia. En su discurso de recogida, Cristina reivindicó la fuerza de la identidad cultural gallega, que hace de Galicia "unha nación orgullosa dos seus valores", y la necesidad de que se convierta en el "motor do desenvolvemento social, político e económico".
