DUT UFC TO PROTEST AGAINST PUNITIVE MEASURES TO CONTROL PROBLEMATIC DRUG USE
Commemorating Youth Month and bringing awareness to the challenges facing the youth of South Africa, the Durban University of Technology’s Urban Futures Centre (UFC@DUT), will on Monday 26 June 2017, hold a peaceful protest march and advocacy event (Support Don’t Punish) that is against the expensive and counter-productive ‘war on drugs’.
The Support Don’t Punish campaign calls on governments for greater investment in cost-effective harm reduction responses and solutions.
Fifty-three students, which included 40 teachers and 13 disabled unemployed youth, graduated with a National Certificate: End User Computing qualification at Durban University of Technology (DUT) Ritson Hall, on the 15 June 2017. In December 2016, the Association of African Universities (AAU) sent out a call for universities across Africa to participate in the Harmonisation of African Higher Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation (HAQAA) initiative.
The primary purpose of the HAQAA initiative is to build a quality culture in African higher education so that institutions remain locally relevant and internationally competitive.
Officially launched in October 2015, the Lenovo Innovation Centre was rebranded and relaunched with refreshed equipment provided by Lenovo, recently.

DUT POST-GRADUATE STUDENT AND FORMER SRC SECRETARY ELECTED USSA VICE PRESIDENT
DUT post-graduate student and former SRC Secretary Menzi Ngcobo has been elected as the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Vice President.
Ngcobo is not new in the USSA leadership roles; in 2015 he was elected at the organisation’s National Executive Committee (NEC) member. Ngcobo, a Faculty of Arts and Design Alumnus whom after completing his National Diploma in Journalism, pursued studies in Bachelor of Education and is currently registered at DUT for his Master’s degree in Management Sciences.
