Why Arts and Disability is a priority for the British Council in Europe
Something exciting is happening across Europe; organisations are opening their eyes to the aesthetic challenge often posed by disabled artists. Joe Turnbull of Disability Arts Online speaks to Ben Evans, Head of Arts and Disability, EU Region at the British Council to discuss how sharing expertise can capitalise on this momentum.
Unlimited International case studies
In 2016 an Arts Council England Ambition for Excellence award, match funded by the British Council, enabled Unlimited to extend global influence, principally through co-commissions with non-UK based disabled artists. Unlimited recently commissioned case studies to extend the learning from this work. The first case study looks at Unfixed, a creative research project that explored the intersections of art, disability, and technology involving ten disabled artists from the UK and Australia. The second is about two international producer placements held with Unlimited in 2016. A third case study will be launched in September.

We are also offering to provide access support for bursary recipients, delivered by our partners in this bursary programme, Unlimited. This is a chance to experience the cultural conversations taking place across Europe, to develop new networks, and to share information about your own practice and work.
Best of the Net: World premiere of NonZeroSum
As part of a project entitled Inclusive Creativity, renowned composer Frank Lyons devised a new piece of music entitled NonZeroSum. The world premiere was performed in a collaboration between Acoustronic, an inclusive ensemble featuring non-disabled and disabled musicians performing with accessible music technology instruments, and the Benyounes Quartet. The performance took place at the Walled City Music Festival, Derry in June. This short film commissioned by Arts Council of Northern Ireland explores the story behind the project.
