EDITOR'S NOTE

Several items to note in this issue of the Minnesota Baptist Messenger.

First, you will want to note the date change for our annual meeting. While our meeting is usually the third week in September, we had to change our date to October 1-3 to accommodate a speaker. A couple of months ago our speaker needed to cancel the appointment. Since many churches already had the October date locked into their calendar and booked other events in September, the Council of Seven thought it best to stay with the October date.

Second, because of the MARBC annual meeting date was moved back a month, it seemed best to push our annual bus trip up a month to September. This earlier date ought to help some who farm to be able to get a way on a trip before harvest begins. We already have 24 people signed up for this trip. We would love to have you join us. Read below to find out more information.

Third, the camp season is halfway over. I know, I know. You say we haven't even begun our youth camps yet. But the camp has already seen a Memorial Day Rally, Staff Training, two rental groups, plus our Family Camp. This week is providing a breather for us before our three youth camps, another rental and our retreats. Read about the building progress that is taking place. The camp you attended years ago is in the midst of a significant makeover!

Finally, I am in the midst of an email change. While inquiries can still be sent to marbc@juno.com, my main email account is now dfriar@marbc.org. Feel free to contact me with your needs or questions.

JOIN US ON AN ARK ENCOUNTER!

Registrations are already pouring in for our annual Bus Trip on September 11- 16. This year our featured attraction is the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, KY. This life-sized conceptual recreation of the watercraft Noah built has been open for a year now. Our trip will also include stops at the Creation Museum, the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH., and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Museum in Iowa.

We will be traveling in a 55 passenger coach bus. Our motel stays provide comfortable rooms and a hot breakfast. The fellowship and good times on this adventure make this a trip not to be missed.

You will want to get your registration in as soon as possible. There is a significant discount for registrations received by August 8. CLICK HERE for more information and a brochure.

CHURCH CELEBRATIONS

First Baptist Church of Brownsdale celebrated their 150th anniversary on May 21. Dr. Ernie Schmidt was the guest speaker. Many former members and friends returned and packed the church. Many pictures and memories were shared from several families to recall the memories of the faithful work of this assembly. Scroll to the bottom of this email to see another picture of the event.

Calvary Baptist Church of Chatfield celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 4.  Former members and friends came for a special time of commemoration. Photo albums displayed the rich history of the relatively young church (at least compared to Brownsdale!) and those attending enjoyed gifts and a cake. Scroll to the bottom of this email to see more pictures of this event.

MARBC ANNUAL MEETING

First Baptist Church in Hibbing will be our host on October 1-3. Our guest speaker will be Pastor David Strope from Ankeny Baptist Church in Ankeny, IA. Brother Strope, who also serves as chairman for the GARBC Council of Eighteen, will be addressing the theme of world missions and how our churches can become more active in the Great Commission. Pastor Strope has traveled abroad to visit many missionaries and serves on a mission board. More information will be coming soon.

BASS LAKE CAMPING NEWS

Haven't signed up for summer camp yet? Don't worry. We still have room for you. You can REGISTER ONLINE or mail in the registration form from the brochure. We have some great plans for you this summer!

Our Family Camp was held just last week. Dr. Andy Hudson from Maranatha Baptist Seminary was our speaker and he did a fantastic job using our Lakeside Adventure theme from the book of Revelation. Our families went home with some great memories and new friendships. Why not join us next year? The dates will be June 25-30, 2018. Brother TOM MEYER from Wordsower Ministries will be our speaker.

There are many changes taking place at camp. Some you will see and some you may not. The mini-golf has had a complete renovation. A new activity (foot golf) is up and running. We also have a Neptune Island pad at the waterfront. Buildings are expanded (girl's showers, pictured), updated (back of Nurse's Cabin, Pavilion) or being constructed anew (office, canteen).

Go to the camp's WEBSITE for more information. Please pray with us that our remaining weeks will be safe and spiritually productive!
