Greetings!

Hopefully you noticed our new look! iMAGINE Upstate STEAM Fest is the brainchild of the Upstate SC STEM Collaborative and it just made sense to us to combine our bi-monthly newsletters into one concise, informational resource for all things STEAM. We will continue to highlight exciting STEAM opportunities and events happening around the Upstate as well as links to interesting articles and insights.

It is my pleasure to announce some new developments to our team. In addition to directing iMAGINE Upstate, I am also assuming leadership of the Upstate SC STEM Collaborative. This dual role makes it possible to cross-promote our ongoing STEM partnerships while developing and hosting educational events throughout the Upstate year-round.

I am thrilled to announce that Kristina Toney who served as an intern last year and recently graduated from Clemson University is now serving as our STEM Outreach Assistant through August.

I am grateful for the privilege of joining you all in supporting STEM education and workforce development. Please reach out to us with your feedback and ideas. We’d love to hear from you!

Build It Day

Legos, Rigamajig, and the Imagination Playground will provide hours of endless enjoyment as children learn about the science of building through play!

A Total Eclipse of the Upstate!

iMAGINE STEM Festival Midlands

10:00am - 1:05pm

Children and families can enjoy a day full of fun STEM activities and can also watch the the Columbia Fireflies vs the Rome Braves baseball game beginning at 1:05pm! The game will pause prior to the totality of the eclipse and resume shortly thereafter!

Total Solar Eclipse

The Children's Museum of the Upstate

Children can take part in a full day of celestial fun with a vast array of eclipse-themed fun including storytime, Spark!Lab activities centering on women in astronomy, and much more! They will also have the opportunity to create their own pinhole projectors and watch the eclipse on the front lawn of the Museum!

Eclipse Extravaganza

Roper Mountain Science Center
10:00 AM-5:00 PM

Roper Mountain Science Center will be open for special hours Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for this incredible event! Children can enjoy Dome Eclipse Shows, Citizen Science project and design challenges, and other fun, hands-on activities!

Pre-Eclipse Weekend at the South Carolina State Museum
South Carolina State Museum
Columbia, SC
Museum Open Fri., Aug. 18 – Sun., Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. –
10 p.m. each day

Explore special pop-up eclipse education stations and tours around the museum and engage with a vast array of space and astronomy exhibits including a special Planetarium Eclipse Show, “Shadows from Space," the Robert B. Ariail Telescope Gallery and Boeing Observatory, and much more!

Picnic and Solar Eclipse Viewing

Families can bring their picnics to the park and take part in a special craft, learn more about day and nighttime woodland creatures and this celestial event, and have the opportunity to take part in a reflection following the eclipse! Spaces are limited, so families must register to attend this no-cost event!
