Eine alternative Vision für Europa
Mehr als 250 NGOs aus ganz Europa haben am 20. Juni ihre Vision für ein demokratischeres, gerechteres und nachhaltigeres Europa der Öffentlichkeit präsentiert. Unterstützt wird diese Vision von Organisationen, die eine große Bandbreite an Interessen vertreten – Arbeitsrechte, Kultur, Entwicklung, Umwelt, Gesundheit, Frauen, Jugendliche und Antidiskriminierung. Sie alle wollen einen Beitrag leisten zur Debatte über die zukünftige Ausrichtung Europas. Sie sehen die Zukunft in einem Europa, in dem „die Nachhaltigkeit fest im Herzen des Projektes Europa verankert ist“, und in dem „Demokratie und Beteiligung, soziale und ökologische Gerechtigkeit, Solidarität und Nachhaltigkeit, Achtung der Rechtsstaatlichkeit sowie Menschenrechte – nicht nur in Europa, sondern weltweit“ im Mittelpunkt stehen. Gemeindebasierter Tourismus – aktueller Schwerpunkt im NFI – respect tourism_LOG
Die Vereinten Nationen haben das Jahr 2017 zum „Internationalen Jahr des nachhaltigen Tourismus für Entwicklung“ ausgerufen. Dahinter steht die Agenda 2030 mit ihren 17 globalen Entwicklungszielen (Sustainable Global Goals, SDGs). Darin werden u.a. Prozesse der Partizipation als zentraler Punkt zur Erreichung der Ziele genannt. Auf der Partizipation, sprich der Mitgestaltung lokaler Gemeinschaften, baut auch der so genannte Community Based Tourism, zu deutsch „gemeindebasierter Tourismus“, auf. Community Based Tourism bezeichnet einen sozialverantwortlichen, partizipativen Tourismus, der auf lokalen Strukturen aufbaut, oft abseits vom Massentourismus. Sein Ziel ist, dass die gesamte Gemeinschaft von den wirtschaftlichen Effekten, die der Tourismus bringt, profitiert und möglichst viel der Wertschöpfung aus dem Tourismus der lokalen Bevölkerung zugute kommt.
Im tourism_LOG greifen wir die verschiedenen Aspekte des gemeindebasierten Tourismus auf und betrachten ihn aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln. In den nächsten Monaten werden hier Akteure aus der ganzen Welt zu Wort kommen, die über ihre Projekte und Erfahrungen – positive wie negative – schreiben werden. NaturFreunde Deutschlands bauen Ausbildungszentrum für Mädchen im Senegal
Am 1. Juni erfolgte der Spatenstich für den Bau eines Ausbildungszentrums für Mädchen und Frauen in der senegalesischen Region St. Louis. Die NaturFreunde Deutschlands und die Ortsgruppe Rastatt haben das Projekt in enger Kooperation mit dem Frauennetzwerk „Koom-koomunjaboot Gi“ aus St. Louis und den senegalesischen Naturfreunden Association Sénégalaise des Amis de la Nature (ASAN) ins Leben gerufen. Einen Großteil der Kosten für das Ausbildungszentrum (75 Prozent) werden durch eine Förderung vom Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung abgedeckt. Infos aus der Landschaft des Jahres 2018/2019 – Senegal/Gambia
Wie schon im letzten Newsletter ausführlich berichtet, wurde ein grenzüberschreitendes Gebiet zwischen Senegal und Gambia als Landschaft des Jahres 2018/2019 ausgewählt. Im NFI-Newsletter wird ab jetzt regelmäßig in kurzen Beiträgen über die Landschaft des Jahres berichtet.
Abkommen zwischen Senegal und Gambia über schonende Wald- und Wildwirtschaft
Für die Zusammenarbeit der senegalesischen Naturfreunde mit ihren Partnern jenseits der Grenze bieten sich nach dem erfolgreichen politischen Wandel in Gambia perfekte Voraussetzungen. Im Grenzgebiet der beiden Länder befinden sich ausgedehnte Waldgebiete, die durch illegale Abholzung und Übernutzung stark gelitten haben. Nun wurde im April 2017 zwischen den Umweltministern der beiden Länder ein Zusammenarbeits-Abkommen über verantwortungsvolle Nutzung der grenznahen Waldressourcen unterzeichnet. Gemäß diesem Abkommen sollen gemeinsame Programme und Strategien ausgearbeitet und umgesetzt werden, wobei ein partizipativer Ansatz unter Einbeziehung der Bevölkerung geplant ist. Dies entspricht voll und ganz den Interessen der Naturfreunde in der Region, die so unter den ersten sein können, die in der Region neue Entwicklungen anstoßen und/oder in solche einbezogen werden können.

Partnertreffen in Koungheul
Ein erstes Treffen aller Akteure in der Landschaft des Jahres wird in der zweiten Juli-Hälfte stattfinden. Dabei werden die PartnerInnen die Gelegenheit haben, sich näher kennen zu lernen und ihre gemeinsamen Aktivitäten im Detail zu planen.

G20 Protestwelle & Bannermeer am 2. Juli 2017 in Hamburg. Zehntausende Menschen werden ein starkes Signal für den politischen Wandel setzen und sich zu einer friedlichen „Welle des Protestes“ versammeln – eine Welle für Klimaschutz, für fairen Handel, für soziale Gerechtigkeit und Demokratie weltweit.
Europa kann dazu beitragen, die Arktis zu schützen, so das Ergebnis einer Studie der Europäischen Umweltagentur (EEA). Die Arktis ist vielfachem Druck ausgesetzt – dem Klimawandel, dem Wirtschaftswachstum, dem Rückgang der Biodiversität oder der Einwanderung invasiver Arten. Das alles hat gravierende Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt und die Lebensbedingungen in der Arktis – aber in weiterer Folge auch auf Europa und die ganze Welt, denn die Arktis spielt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Regulierung des Weltklimas.
Biber GO! Spurensuche mit dem Smartphone. Der Biber ist eines der faszinierendsten heimischen Wildtiere. Er kann exzellent schwimmen, taucht gerne mal unter und fällt mithilfe seiner harten Zähne ganze Bäume. Dabei hinterlässt er – anders als viele andere Wildtiere – zahlreiche, leicht erkennbare Spuren. Aus diesem Grund eignet er sich sehr gut für die Naturvermittlung und den Biologieunterricht. Mithilfe der Unterlagen auf dieser Website können Kinder und Jugendliche lernen, wie man Biberspuren erkennt. Anschließend können sie sich mit ihrem Smartphone und der Biber-App selbst auf die Spurensuche machen …
Green Tour 2017 des Österreichischen Umweltzeichens. Die UNWTO hat das Jahr 2017 zum Jahr des Nachhaltigen Tourismus für Entwicklung erklärt. Was das in der Praxis bedeuten kann, zeigt die Green Tour des Österreichischen Umweltzeichens. BloggerInnen besuchen Betriebe in ganz Österreich, die mit dem Österreichischen Umweltzeichen ausgezeichnet sind – Hotels, Nationalparks, Gastronomiebetriebe, Schutzhütten und Veranstaltungshäuser – und berichten laufend darüber. Jeder Betrieb hat seine eigenen kreativen grünen Ideen oder eigene Perspektiven, um sein Haus und die KundInnen genauso wie die MitarbeiterInnen zu mehr Nachhaltigkeit zu bewegen. Die Tour ist am 5. Juni, dem Welt-Umwelttag, gestartet und führt bis Oktober durch alle Bundesländer.

An alternative vision for Europe
On 20th of june, more than 250 non-government organisations from across Europe have released an alternative vision for a more democratic, just and sustainable Europe. Intended to influence the debate on the future direction of Europe, this alternative vision is endorsed by organisations representing a multitude of public interest issues, including labour rights, culture, development, environment, health, women’s rights, youth, and anti-discrimination groups.
The vision describes a future for Europe in which “sustainability sits firmly at the heart of the European project,” and the EU focuses on “democracy and participation, social and environmental justice, solidarity and sustainability, respect for the rule of law, and human rights both within Europe and around the globe”. Community Based Tourism – main focus in NFI´s tourism_LOG
The United Nations proclaimed 2017 to be the “International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development”, based on the Agenda 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Global Goals (SDGs). They include for example how participatory processes can be used to reach the defined goals. Participation, meaning the involvement of the local community, is also a key element for Community Based Tourism. Community Based Tourism describes a socially responsible, participative tourism, which is based on local structures while often staying away from mass tourism. In the end, the whole local community should be benefiting from the economic effects tourism creates, as most of the added value stays within the community.
The tourism_LOG will cover different aspects and perspectives of Community Based Tourism. Over the next months different stakeholders from all over the world will give insights about their projects and experiences – both positive and negative. Naturefriends Germany build training centre for girls in Senegal
As of June 1st, the construction of a training centre for girls and women in the Senegalese region St. Louis started. Naturefriends Germany and the local group Rastatt started the project together with the women’s network „Koom-koomunjaboot Gi“ from St. Louis and the Senegalese Naturefriends Association Sénégalaise des Amis de la Nature (ASAN). The majority of the costs for the training centre (75%) have been covered by a grant from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. Informations from the Landscape of the Year 2018/2019 – Senegal/The Gambia
As mentioned in the last newsletter, a cross-border area between Senegal and the Gambia was picked for the Landscape of the Year 2018/2019. From now on, there will be short articles about the Landscape of the Year on a regular basis in the NFI newsletter.
Agreement on Forest Resources and Wildlife Management between Senegal and the Gambia
Due to the successful political changes in the Gambia, conditions for the cooperation between Senegalese Naturefriends and their partners across the border improved tremendously. Extensive woodlands in the border regions of the two countries have suffered strongly because of illegal deforestation and overuse. Now, both countries had their Ministries for the Environment sign a cooperation agreement in April 2017 regarding the responsible use of forest resources close to the border. According to the agreement joint programmes and strategies shall be developed and implemented, which includes a participatory approach to include the local communities. This is fully in line with the interests of local Naturefriends, who now have the chance to be the first in the region to start new developments and/or be part of such changes.

European action can help ease pressure on threatened Arctic environment. The Arctic environment is under considerable combined pressures from climate change, economic development, biodiversity decline, threat from invasive species and others drivers of change, according to a new EEA (European Environment Agency) assessment. These pressures have cumulative impacts especially on the region but also on the rest of Europe and, due to the Arctic’s role in climate regulation, even globally.

Une vision alternative pour l’Europe
Le 20 juin plus de 250 organisations non-gouvernementales de toute l’Europe ont rendu publique leur vision alternative pour une Europe plus démocratique, plus juste et plus durable. Étant proposée pour influencer le débat sur l’orientation future de l’Europe, cette vision alternative est soutenue par des organisations représentant une large gamme de thèmes d’intérêt public, tels que droits du travail, culture, développement, environnement, santé, droits des femmes, jeunesse, ainsi que groupements luttant contre la discrimination.
La vision décrit un avenir pour l’Europe, dans lequel la durabilité « est au cœur même du projet européen », et dans lequel l’Union européenne met l’accent sur « la démocratie et la participation, la justice sociale et environnementale, la solidarité et la durabilité, le respect de l’État de droit, et les droits humains en Europe et dans le monde ». Le tourisme communautaire – nouveau thème majeur pour le tourism_LOG de l’IAN
Les Nations Unies ont proclamé l’année 2017 « Année internationale du tourisme durable pour le développement ». Le fondement en est l’Agenda 2030 avec ses 17 Objectifs du Développement Durable (ODD). La participation y est mentionnée parmi les facteurs centraux pour atteindre les objectifs. La participation, c’est-à-dire l’implication de communautés locales, est le fondement de ce que l’on appelle « tourisme communautaire », à savoir un tourisme implanté dans les communautés de base. Ce tourisme est socialement responsable et participatif et repose sur des structures locales, souvent à l’écart du tourisme de masse. Il a pour objectif de faire bénéficier l‘ensemble de la communauté de ses effets économiques, et de faire profiter au maximum les populations locales de la plus-value touristique.
Dans le tourism_LOG nous abordons les divers aspects du tourisme communautaire sous différents angles. Pendant les prochains mois des acteurs du monde entier auront la parole pour partager leurs projets et expériences – positifs et négatifs, notre propos étant d’initier une discussion critique sur le thème. Les Amis de la Nature d’Allemagne construisent un centre de formation pour filles au Sénégal
Le 1er juin la première pierre a été posée pour la construction d’un centre de formation pour filles et femmes dans la région sénégalaise de Saint-Louis. Les Amis de la Nature d’Allemagne et la section de Rastatt réalisent ce projet en étroite coopération avec le réseau féminin « Koom-koomunjaboot Gi » de Saint-Louis et l’Association Sénégalaise des Amis de la Nature (ASAN). Une grande partie du coût de la construction du centre (75%) sont couverts par une aide du ministère allemand de la Coopération et du Dévelppement. Le solde de 9 350 euros doit être financé par des dons. Infos du Paysage de l´Année 2018/2019 – Sénégal/Gambie
Dans la dernière édition de la Newsletter nous avons déjà présenté le Paysage de l’Année 2018/2019 – une région transfrontalière entre le Sénégal et la Gambie. À partir de maintenant une rubrique régulière sera consacrée à de brèves informations sur le Paysage de l’Année.
Accord entre le Sénégal et la Gambie sur la gestion des ressources forestières et fauniques
Après le changement politique en Gambie d’excellentes perspectives s’ouvrent à la coopération des Amis de la Nature sénégalais avec leurs partenaires de l’autre côté de la frontière. Dans la région transfrontalière des deux pays se trouvent des forêts étendues, fortement dégradées par la surexploitation et des coupes illicites. Or, en avril 2017, un accord de coopération a été signé par les ministres de l’Environnement des deux pays, relatif à la gestion parcimonieuse des ressources forestières de part et d’autre de la frontière. Selon cet accord des programmes et stratégies seront élaborés et mis en œuvre dans une approche participative. Cette démarche correspond parfaitement aux intérêts des Amis de la Nature de la région, qui peuvent ainsi être parmi les premiers à initier de nouveaux développements dans la région et/ou à y être associés.

Nouvelles brèves – calendrier – informations internes
G20 Vague de protestation & Océan de bannières le 2 juillet à Hamburg (Allemagne). Des dizaines de milliers de personnes donneront un fort signal pour le changement politique et se réuniront en une « vague de protestation » pacifique – pour la protection du climat, le commerce équitable, la justice sociale et la démocratie dans le monde entier.
Selon une étude de l’Agence Européenne de l’Environnement (EEA), l’Europe peut contribuer à protéger l’Arctique exposée à de nombreuses contraintes – changement climatique, croissance économique, perte de diversité biologique ou menaces émanant d’espèces évasives. Tout ceci a des effets considérables pour la région mais aussi pour le reste de l’Europe et, vu le rôle important de l’Arctique comme régulateur climatique, pour le monde entier.
