Facebook, which hit 2bn monthly active users this week, has partnered with Fox to air a selection of Champions League soccer games in the US and is reportedly in talks to invest in scripted series with a budget of around $3m an episode. Vimeo, meanwhile, has axed its plans to launch an SVoD service.

Meanwhile, Amazon has teamed up with ITV to produce a seven-part series, Vanity Fair while Brazilian operator Globosat is buying into Vice's Brazilian operations in an expansion push. Comedy Central is also looking to millennials with a partnership with DEFY Media.

UK-based premium channel, Sky Sports, is creating lower-cost thematic sports channels to give consumers more choice in which sports they pay for, while HBO is rolling out an entire series on-demand before it airs on live TV. Vodafone Spain has also launched an eSports channel on Twitch.

Fox has received approval from Irish regulators to acquire Sky, and Spanish operator Euskaltel has received board approval for a Telecable takeover. In New Zealand, Vodafone and Sky have dropped plans to merge after opposition from the Commerce Commission.
