Meet LA Green Grounds Teaching Garden at Good Earth Community Garden 
It’s summer in Los Angeles and if you enjoy gardening, you’ll understand that mornings are the ideal time to get to work. If you make your way to Mid-City, you’ll find LA Green Grounds Teaching Garden located next to Good Earth Community Garden. This small gem is a staple tool in building a strong and fruitful community. The Teaching garden sits on the corner of Carmona Avenue and Boden Street – our guide was Steven Meeks, representative for LA Green Grounds and President of West Adams Neighborhood Council. Ocean View Farms Tour, Saturday, July 15th 

Join Net Impact for a day at Ocean View Farms! Come learn about sustainability, urban farming, and the Los Angeles food system with representatives from this six-acre organic garden in West LA. Featuring delicious, locally sourced vegan fare from Todo Verde, we will get a full tour of the farm and hear from a panel of experts.

UC ANR Urban Agriculture Workshop Series, Friday, July 21st

Learn the basics of urban farming from UC experts and local partners at this upcoming series that focuses on building success in California's urban agriculture by managing risk and leveraging opportunities! Take one or take all four of these low-cost workshops. Each workshop is $20 for a full day of expert speakers, which includes lunch and refreshments.  
The first workshop will be held on Friday, July 21st, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm at UC Cooperative Extension Office, 700 West Main Street, Alhambra, 91801.

FREE Smart Gardening Workshop,Saturday, July 22nd

The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works is hosting a FREE gardening workshop. Learn backyard composting, water-wise gardening, worm composting, and grass cycling.
No reservations needed. Composting bins will be available for purchase.

Water Rate Hike Day of Action, Friday, July 28th

On April 1st last year, the LADWP water rate for community gardens increased by 50% from $1.41 per HCF to $2.11 per HCF. On July 1st this year, the rate increased 34% to $2.83 per HFC. By July 2020, the rate will have increased almost 300% to $5.48 per HFC. These increases are crippling many community gardens.
Join us from 8:30 am - 1:00 pm on Friday, July 28th, at LA City Hall to discuss this situation with Council Members of all City Districts.

Turn Your Organic Waste into Nutrient-rich Fertilizer with Worms, Friday, July 28th 

Monthly meeting of the San Fernando Valley branch of the Seed Library of Los Angeles. Randy Thompson will present the use of worms to turn your garden and kitchen waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer. Open to the public. Pot luck follows -- we strive for a low waste event, bring your own plate and utensils.

Altadena Community Garden's Annual Picnic, Saturday, July 29th

for The 15th Annual Theodore Payne Native Plant Garden Tour, Saturday & Sunday, April 14th & 15th, 2018
 
The deadline for applications is October 1, 2017, but they will be considered on a rolling basis beginning in August. The online application form lists all the garden criteria. 
 
The goal of the Tour is to inspire Angelenos by providing real-world examples of California native gardens that are beautiful, functional, and possible for every type of landscape in Los Angeles. We are seeking high-quality, well-established (ideally, at least three years old) native gardens within LA County.

Monthly Gardening Classes with Al Renner

Al's gardening class at Lavender Hill Farm, scheduled for Saturday, July 15th, has been canceled. Al will be moving the class to the new community garden site in East Hollywood starting August 19th.
