Marriage for All
After a surprise snap-vote, same-sex marriage has been legalized throughout Germany. Chancellor Angela Merkel advocated for a parliamentary vote on a bill to legalize gay marriage. While Chancellor Merkel personally voted against the bill, she realized that the majority of her government and country supported the bill and suggested the vote. The bill will also allow same-sex couples to adopt children.

State of Emergency
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency for the New York City subway system, in which he pledged $1 billion for improvements which allows NY State to expedite the allocation of funding and the initiation of repairs to the subway system. The Governor has ordered MTA Chairman Joe Lhota to come up with a reorganization plan for the subway system in 30 days and to assess all capital needs like cars, tracks and signals in 60 days. This announcement comes after the recent train derailment which injured 39 people and forced the evacuation of hundreds from the derailed train.
