Love your work. Love your life.
Dear Friends,

Healthy work/life management does not involve a 50/50 split. Some days it is 90/10, other days 40/60, and so on. In anticipation of my girls leaving for sleepaway camp last Saturday, I cleared the week before they left so that I could inhale them. The time off was great for my family and this week I worked a little harder. Work/life wellness in a nutshell.

SAM'S CENTS

As you dream about your future career, remember that it all starts with people. Who do you want to work for or with? Who will help you boost your career while still respecting your personal life? Identify these leaders and approach them. Over the years I have found that luminaries and titans of industry get approached far less than you’d think, and if you take time to think carefully about what to say when first making contact, you will most often get the response you want.

Women I have interviewed, from designer Liz Lange to Laurel Richie, former president of the Women’s National Basketball Association, all tell me they respond to cold contacts. If you are already in a company, chances are even greater that a senior leader will be willing to talk to you and build a relationship with you.
