Scottish Apprenticeship Challenge 2017

In partnership with Skills Development Scotland, we are inviting organisations across West Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde who recruit apprentices to take part in the Scottish Apprenticeship Challenge.

The challenge is open to companies with staff currently following an Apprenticeship Framework. The company/apprentice(s) should identify a project which benefits the local community and the awards are open to individual apprentices or teams of apprentices (up to 8 apprentices in a team), depending upon the project being undertaken.

If you would like further information or to register an individual/team to participate in the challenge, please contact

Ingliston Country Club Tour

Ingliston Country Club recently organised a tremendous tour of their facilities for a group of pupils from West Dunbartonshire. The pupils were granted behind the scenes access to the restaurant, wedding facilities, spa, lodges and on site hotel.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their experience which allowed them to see the diverse range of career paths available within the organisation and learn more about the skills and attributes they look for from their staff.

We would like to say thank you to Ingliston Country Club for hosting this tremendous opportunity!
Project SEARCH Graduation Event 2017

Family members, friends and colleagues of Renfrewshire's Project SEARCH students gathered at Johnstone Town Hall on 6th June 2017 to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2017. Project SEARCH is a college programme for young people aged 17 - 26 who have a learning disability and/or autism. It is delivered in partnership by Renfrewshire Council and City of Glasgow College.

Guests were treated to an inspiring and entertaining presentation from the 11 successful graduates who: explained what they had to do to complete all elements of their college course; described the work they had carried out during their 3 x 10 week placements within Renfrewshire Council; and outlined their individual learning journeys which had moved them towards securing employment.

The next Project SEARCH programme will begin in August 2017 with 12 new students already selected. The partners are keen to extend the programme to involve other organisations in providing work placements. If this is something your business may be interested in discussing please contact;

Bees Knees Emerging Young Talent Awards 2017

Our very own Brian Evans was recently shortlisted for the Inverclyde Chamber Bee's Knees Award for Emerging Young Talent. As part of the shortlisting process, a short video of each candidate is produced to be shown at the awards dinner to highlight the important role they hold within each organisation. If you would like to view Brian's video please click here.

Sadly Brian was pipped to the post on the night. We would like to send our congratulations to the winner Claire McParland from the Holiday Inn Express Hotel!
Big Bang Scotland 2017

On Tuesday 13th of June, 140 young people from across the West region took part in the Big Bang Scotland Fair, organised by the Energy Skills Partnership and hosted at Perth College.

Participants were given the opportunity to engage with a range of organisations from training providers to international employers; through a host of interactive activities from programming robotic arms to building suspension bridges!

The Scottish Finals of the Bloodhound Challenge took place on the day with over half of the participating teams being students from secondary schools across the West region. Congratulations to St Ninian's High School who were awarded the Team Spirit Award for their enthusiasm whilst completing the challenge!
Renfrewshire Chamber B2B Event

Our programme director, Bob, and programme assistant, Brian, recently exhibited at the Business Matters in Renfrewshire event held by Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce. The event, held at the Lagoon Centre in Paisley, was a great opportunity to network with local organisations and promote our work to more than 50 exhibitors!
Modern Apprenticeship Success!

Congratulations to Brian on successfully completing his Modern Apprenticeship in Business Administration!
Job Clubs in West Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire

Across May, our very own Gary Murray hosted job clubs for 20 young people across West Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire. Over the 3 weeks, pupils learned about how to construct a CV and covering letter and how to best tailor these for jobs that the pupils were interested in.

The sessions concluded with mock interviews where members of our team applied for positions in companies the pupils had created to highlight the differences between a strong interview and one which could be improved. At the end of the block of sessions all pupils were given a memory stick with the outline of their CV for them to build upon!
