EPA Resets Formaldehyde Rule, Amends Labeling
EPA will walk back a rule that would have delayed compliance dates for formaldehyde emission standards, reinstating previous deadlines. EPA also published a proposed direct final rule to cut Section 770.45(f) completely from TSCA Title VI. This will allow regulated entities to voluntarily label compliant products as soon as compliance can be achieved.

China Issues New Formaldehyde Rule
The China National Standards Administration released a new national formaldehyde emission standard, GB18580-2017. The standard, effective May 1, 2018, lowers acceptable formaldehyde emissions to 0.124 mg/m3 (0.10 ppm). Experts say that the revised standard will improve product quality, increase consumer appeal, and fundamentally change the structure of China's forest products industry.
