Vision's Design-Build Studio Coming to Lenoir

Have you heard the news? We are adding a Design Studio!

In Lenoir across from the County offices we are currently remodeling our new Design Studio. It has been a lot of work so far. We have fully gutted the interior down to the original dirt crawlspace. This commercial space was once a home in the 1930’s. It was riddled with improper construction techniques from past tenants. We want to have a beautiful inviting space to bring our clients to design their projects. We will have a working kitchen display, tile shower showroom, countertop and cabinet samples, and much more. Be on the look out for our open house!

Securing the Future of Housing:
A Committed Home Builder

I love my job. I thoroughly enjoy watching people’s dreams come true, and I am very lucky to be able to provide for my family doing something I enjoy. Our industry can be so fulfilling by changing the lives of our clients. At Vision Design we want all our employees and trade contractors to also be able to feel this way. These are a few reasons why I am involved locally, nationally, and on the state level with the Home Builder’s Association. Giving back to our industry is very important for securing the future of housing for generations to come.

As Vice President of Region 9 of the North Carolina Home Builders Association (NCHBA), I got to spent time with our elected officials in the NC Legislative Building in Raleigh discussing issues important to housing. It was an honor and privilege to represent our region to some of the key decision makers within North Carolina.

Integrating Your Home’s Indoor and Outdoor Living Space

The trend for merging your home’s indoor living area with the outdoors has received a lot of buzz in recent years. What would be more invigorating in the morning than to breathe in deeply the fresh air of a new day? What would be more soothing in the evening than the gentle murmur of an outdoor fountain? If you spend your day surrounded by four closed-off walls, most likely you are longing for the opportunity to open up your home to a more natural setting.

You can accomplish this objective in several ways, such as incorporating sunrooms and three-season porches. But completely opening wide the walls of your home to an outdoor living space creates a unique experience. The first time your guests visit your home, they will expect to arrive eventually at a barrier that separates the indoor space from the outdoor space—some sort of exterior wall that includes a door you must pass through to reach your covered patio or courtyard. But what if there is none? What if the inside and outside of your home integrate so seamlessly that it is almost impossible to determine where one ends and the other begins?

This kind of open plan makes use of huge expanses of sliding or folding floor-to-ceiling glass doors that help blur the distinction between inside and out. When these 12 to 14 foot wide walls of glass are fully open, the exterior wall of your home will seem to magically vanish. As you prepare meals in your indoor kitchen, you can enjoy uninterrupted sight lines all the way through to your outdoor environment. The large expanse brings more natural daylight into the interior, helping to brighten up your kitchen work area.

Motorized screens that descend and cover the full breadth of the opening can be installed for certain times of the day when insects may become a nuisance. If the outside temperatures rise or fall to extreme levels, the walls of glass in your home can be closed to keep the indoor climate comfortable. Today’s high performance features for glass walls, such as Low-E glass and thermal spacers between the glass panes, are designed to help protect interior spaces from severe temperature fluctuations. This will assist in optimizing energy savings for your home’s heating and air-conditioning systems.

The smooth transition can be reinforced through using the same flooring materials indoors and outdoors. Materials that meet this criteria include large format porcelain tile designed for indoor/outdoor use, as well as sintered compact surfaces such as Dekton and Neolith. The advantages of these surfacing materials is that they are non-porous, very durable, resistant to stains, mildew, scratching, and suitable for any climate, including those with freezing temperatures or intense heat.

Blending indoor and outdoor living spaces is also enhanced through coordinating the style and colors of furniture, cabinets and decor in your home’s various lounge, bar and kitchen areas. Carrying a similar design theme throughout helps unify the entire space visually. You will be delighted to discover you can move casually through your living spaces, basically unaware of whether you are in the outside patio area or in your indoor great room.
