Much of BMAC’s work takes place in remote areas where access is only possible using a 4x4 vehicle. Our Land Rover, affectionately named the Monkey Bus, enables us to reach parts of the forest where Barbary macaques confiscated from the pet trade can safely be released; to facilitate health outreach in villages where the elderly, pregnant women and young children often cannot access medical care; and to administer vital services such as vaccination of domestic dogs against rabies.
The little girl in the photos is Fatima. She is unable to walk due to a congenital condition, but this will change if she is able to access medical treatment in a major town. Her family is relying on BMAC to facilitate her treatment by helping them get from their remote village to the hospital where treatment will take place - this, in turn, relies on our Monkey Bus being available for transport over extremely rough tracks.
The infant macaque, also shown above, was rescued by the BMAC team and reunited with her group because Ahmed was able to drive deep into the forest to find them. As you can see from the before and after photos, she was suffering terribly before her release back into the forest.
The Monkey Bus has put in years of faithful service and very punishing work, but she has reached the end of her life and we are now without a 4x4 vehicle. We are more than halfway to our fundraising goal of £20,000, and we need help to reach our target as soon as possible so we can continue our vital work for both humans and animals. You can donate to our UK or Moroccan charity bank accounts using the details below, and help us by sharing this email with anyone else who might be interested in offering support. Thank you.
