DLAMINI’S FILM NOMINATED FOR THE 2017 SIMON MABHUNU SABELA AWARDS

Durban University of Technology’s Jabu Dlamini, who made a film about the abduction of young girls into marriage in rural areas, has been nominated in four categories for the 2017 Simon Mabhunu Sabela Awards.

Dlamini, a DUT  Department of Somatology employee and Business Administration post-graduate student, who hails from Emazabekweni, rural Ixopo, did research that ultimately led her into writing a film called This Love

DUT STUDENT DESIGNERS WIN TOP THREE POSITIONS AT VDJ

The Durban University of Technology dominated the top three positions in the prestigious Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award presented by Durban Fashion Fair. Student designer, Katekani Moreku took home the first prize with Hlengiwe Mdunge and Nasreen Paruk being voted second and third positions. The three DUT winners were hailed as the next best set of designers by the high-powered panel of judges.

Sibongiseni Michael Dlamini

DUT’S NEW HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF THE COMMITTEES ADMINISTRATION

Meet Mr Sibongiseni Michael Dlamini, a Durban University of Technology alumnus and a seasoned-committees administrator, who has now joined the DUT family as the new Head of Department of the Committees Administration.

He has a culmination of 15 years of experience, having worked for the Ugu District Municipality since July 2002 and the eThekwini Municipality as the Manager of the Ward Committees since July 2013.

SATICA members

SATICA 2017 REACHES OUT TO DISADVANTAGED FAMILIES

The 14 institutions that participated in the SATICA annual Eisteddfod 2017 at the Durban University of Technology held an outreach programme at Ebuhleni Crèche in KwaMashu over the weekend.

The crèche is home to children from disadvantaged families, with many parents who are unable to pay crèche fees. The crèche is run by members of the AEC Church in KwaMashu.

SATICA

DUT WAS PROUD TO HOST SATICA 2017

Durban University of Technology was the proud host of the prestigious 2017 SATICA competition. It was an inspiring and entertaining few days of and music and competition, that eventually resulted in the students from Sefako Makgatho University (SMU), being declared the overall platinum winners in the event that ran in Durban from 4 July to 9 July. SATICA stands for the South African Tertiary Institution’s Choral Association and it is a non-profit organisation that is focused on creating a platform for tertiary institution’s choirs to share and showcase their musical talent.
