Advocacy

INACH membership

We are excited to announce that CEJI is now member of the International Network Against Cyber Hate (INACH). As joint action is crucial in tackling online hate, we are honored to work in synergy with such a committed group of people devoted to combating hate speech and discrimination.

Second High Level Group on combating racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance

CEJI Director Robin Sclafani participated in the meeting on 31 May-1 June as CEJI has contributed to the EC’s monitoring exercise on illegal hate speech online.

App to report online hate speech is now launched

The eMore mobile app was officially launched in Belgium on 21st April at UNIA with the participation of various local organisations. Get to know more about the app by watching our video on how it functions and helps to monitor online hate speech across the web.

Understanding antisemitic hate crimes and addressing the security needs of Jewish communities

CEJI contributed to ODIHR’s new guide that lays out practical steps that governments are recommended to take to address the security needs of Jewish communities.

Education

Parliament of Rights educational kit

The online interactive tool aims at generating a greater understanding of the EU’s policy-making process using anti-discrimination legislation as a case study. Developed by CEJI and OBC Transeuropa, the updated English version is now available.

Pairs & Repères

EPTO and CEJI have joined forces for the Brussels-based youth project, Pairs & Repères, which brings together 16 young people aged 16-22 from all horizons to develop their own citizen projects across the city. Their projects, an interreligious evening and an anti-discrimination event, brought together 150 people.

CEJI's training coordinator Stéphanie Lecesne facilitated a dialogue lunch with youth from different religious and social background on Sunday 9th July 2017.

Second intercultural dialogue with women

Our training coordinator Stéphanie Lecesne led a morning session of lively discussion on the role of Jewish, Muslim and Christian women in a modern world on 7th May.

Facing Facts highlights

Facing All the Facts bias indicator workshops

Four training development workshops took place lately: on anti-Gypsism and anti-Roma bias indicators in Brussels, anti-muslim bias indicators organised in Malaga and most recently, the anti-migrants bias indicator workshop held in Athens.

Facing Facts at the conference of the National Police Chief's Council

CEJI Director Robin Sclafani presented the Facing Facts online platform at the conference, held in Manchester on 3-4 May. The focus of the two day-long conference was hate crime.

Facing Facts Online course on hate speech

The filming has begun for the next Facing Facts online course that will focus on countering and monitoring online hate speech. Interviews with NGOs, European bodies, IT companies were filmed during April and May, which will be part of the teachig material.

Facing All the Facts national workshops

During the national workshops held in Greece, Italy, Hungary and Ireland, participants from NGOs, police, prosecution services, the judiciary, and government ministries worked across ‘boundaries’ to understand each other’s contribution to evidencing the problem of hate crime.

Staff news

Robin Sclafani has participated in recent meetings at UNESCO Paris as part of the educational track of the OSCE-ODIHR’s Words Into Action programme. She delivered a training on EU advocacy to the European Progressive Rabbis Association on  26th March and gave a workshop on religion and gender on 4th April to ENORB and EWL.
Our training coordinator, Stéphanie Lecesne has delivered numerous training on Overcoming Antisemitism or Overcoming Islamophobia, including the open workshop at CEJI office on 3-4 July. She also held two sessions during the No Hate Speech Movement’s seminar on antisemitic hate speech between 9-12 May in Strasbourg.
CEJI's Facing Facts coordinator, Melissa Sonnino attended the EC/FRA meeting on recording hate crimes on 26th April in Vienna. She presented the Facing Facts Online anti-Gypsyism bias indicator module at the 4th OPRE Platform Meeting on 15th May and represented CEJI at the INACH annual members meeting on 22nd June in Berlin.
CEJI's communication officer, Julia Mozer attended the EC and the Maltese Presidency's conference on counter-narratives for combating online hate speech on 6-7 April. She also participated in Paidea's Paradigm program in Sweden between 22-28 May and attended AJC's Global Forum as part of the EUJS delegation between 4-6 June.
