City Splash Pads & Pools

This week's forecast is calling for some hot weather! What better way to cool off, than visiting one of the City's splash pads or pools, now open for the summer season! 

The City also offers a variety of aquatic opportunities for exercise, relaxation, learning, and most of all fun. View locations, hours of operation, and other details.

Love My Neighbourhood Video

Love My Neighbourhood: Nominations Closing Soon!
Love My Neighbourhood is a new initiative to help build a more vibrant, connected Niagara Falls. It is an opportunity for neighbours to come together to celebrate what's special about their neighbourhood. City staff will organize celebrations at three selected neighbourhood parks with the assistance of neighbourhood volunteers.

To nominate your neighbourhood and local park to be the site of a celebration, complete the Love My Neighbourhood form. Simply tell us what you love about your neighbourhood and why it should be selected for a celebration.

Free Niagara Falls Canada 150 Signature Event

On Saturday August 26th, a day- long celebration of everything Canadian will take place at the Scotiabank Convention Centre.

During the day, there will be plenty of free family friendly fun, including a children’s area, Mini Comic Con, an art showcase, and food trucks featuring quintessential Canadian foods.

Juno award winning Matthew Good with special guests The Blue Stones will headline an evening of great Canadian entertainment for a 19+ licensed event. There is limited capacity - so circle your calendar and plan to arrive early! Doors will open at 7pm.

Operation Awesome Playgrounds Video

Operation Awesome Playgrounds! 
Over the past two weeks, City staff visited 6 different Operation Awesome Playground parks to meet with the surrounding community, and present the new playground design. Thank you for everyone who came out to speak with us and provide your valuable feedback!

South End Off-Leash Dog Park
The new off-leash dog park is proposed to be located at the Niagara Falls Humane Society on Chippawa Parkway!

Visit letstalk.niagarafalls.ca to view a conceptual sketch for the proposed dog park and you will see that the design not only addresses the needs of the pet owners, but also attempts to create an inviting and enjoyable space for people to use as well.

We're still in the planning stages, and want to hear from you!  Sign up for Let's Talk Niagara Falls and fill out the short survey online and tell us your thoughts as plans for the new South End Dog Park develop.

Buddhist Museum Grand Opening

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Chinese Buddhism propagation in North America, The Buddhists Association of Canada Cham Shan Temple held their Buddhist Museum Grand Opening in Niagara Falls on June 20, 2017. The Buddhist Museum in Canada is the first and largest self-supported Chinese Buddhist Museum in North America.  It is a multi-functional museum integrating Chinese culture, religion, education, charity and tourism. 
 
The museum is housed in the Peace Sarira Stupa and its architectural design mimics the Dayan Style Pagoda in China.  The exhibits consists of collections of precious Buddhist cultural relics and artworks, while the Sarira of Sakyamuni Buddha is enshrined on the top floor.

GO Hub and Station Study: Update

This past June, the Niagara Region conducted a public opinion survey and held public meetings to gather input on how the area surrounding Niagara's four proposed GO stations should be developed. The input received will help to develop secondary plans for each site, and will be presented to the public for review and feedback in fall 2017.

The Region's website offers more information regarding the GO Hub and Station Study. Residents are encouraged to visit the website to learn about the important work happening in our community to prepare for the arrival of daily GO Train service.

Young Entrepreneurs Showcased 

Thanks to a great partnership between the Niagara Falls Small Business Enterprise Centre (SBEC) and Staples Canada, five young entrepreneurs in the Summer Company program were able to showcase their businesses at the Morrison Street Staples in Niagara Falls.

Club de Lecture
Club de Lecture is a French reading club, led by Lauren Kesseler, that helps students not only maintain but also improve their French speaking and reading skills. 
Simple Life Lawn Care
Simple Life Lawn Care, led by Anthony Infurna, is a new and innovative landscaping company that takes pride in being able to meet customer's satisfaction on each job. 
Rozati
Rozati is a jewelry and accessory company founded by Sarah Chan. Rozati was inspired by the word "satori" which means enlightenment in the Japanese culture.
Phelan Philms
Kyle Phelan is the owner of Phelan Philms, a Niagara based multi-media services company specializing in video production, photography and audio production.

Canada Day Fun: Pieces of Canada - 150 Objects - 150 Stories Exhibit 

The Niagara Falls History Museum encourages residents to tour "The Pieces of Canada Exhibit" running until December 31, 2017. The exhibit features 150 Canadian artifacts,  loaned to the Museum by the community,  providing their idea on what makes it an important story about Canada's past.  

There are stories about transportation, immigration, sports, military and much more. These are personal stories that collectively tell us something about our nation. View more information.

The new site allows for the community to contribute ideas and feedback on important City matters! We want to empower you to be more active in shaping your community and future!

The purpose of the meeting would be for the approval of the Downtown BIA’s budget. It is intended that this will be the only item on the agenda.

Chippawa Lions Park Opening: Thursday, August 3, 2017

Mark your calendars and come out to Chippawa Lions Park Opening on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 4pm to 6pm!

The City will be opening the public pool an hour early, at 5pm and the Chippawa Lions will provide a BBQ, among other fun activities planned!

Civic Holiday Hours

City of Niagara Falls municipal offices will be closed on Monday, August 7, 2017 for the Civic Holiday.

Niagara Falls Transit will be operating on a holiday schedule.

Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.

New Transit Transfer Policy

A New Transit Transfer Policy as gone into effect for Niagara Falls Transit. As of June 1, 2017, one way transfers are still permitted, however, riders will not be able to make a bidirectional (return trip) on a single fare.

Highway 420 and QEW Rehabilitation Road Closures

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation will be rehabilitating sections of Highway 420 QEW interchanges in Niagara Falls over the next two years.

Closures will vary from week to week. View a list of upcoming road closures.

Last year’s dry and hot summer was tough on lawns.  If you are planning to install an underground sprinkler system please remember to ensure it is installed within your own property line, as it is not permitted to install underground sprinkler systems on City property.

The City is not responsible for any damage caused to underground irrigation systems and sprinkler heads placed on City property. Thank you for your cooperation.
