Special Event

Mindful Resistance Webinar

Interbeing Sangha of Kingston presents a live screening of Mindful Resistance: Rescue the Planet (AND Ourselves) at Unitarian Place, 206 Concession Street, Thursday, July 13th, 2017 at 2:00pm. Two dedicated environmental advocates, both meditation teachers in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh, will lead this live webinar. Heather Lyn Mann (author of Ocean of Insight) and Thanissara Weinberg (author of Time to Stand Up) discuss how to apply the principles of Engaged Buddhism in caring for the environment.
Communities across generations and faiths are coming together to reverse our environmental crisis. Now is the moment to direct our mindful energy outward to heal our planet and each other. Together we’ll explore how our spiritual practice can help us cultivate resilience and create a future where our children and planet can thrive. Part of the Mindful Resistance Series by Parallax Press.
Walking with the Earth

"Many of us walk for the sole purpose of getting from one place to another. Now suppose we are walking to a sacred place. We would walk quietly and take each gentle step with reverence. I propose that we walk this way every time we walk on the earth. The earth is sacred and we touch her with each step."

"The universe, the sun, and the stars have contributed many elements to the earth, and when we look into the earth we see that it’s a very beautiful flower containing the presence of the whole universe. When we look into our own bodily formation, we are made of the same elements as the planet. It has made us. The earth and the universe are inside of us. When we take mindful steps on the earth, our body and mind unite, and we unite with the earth. The earth gave birth to us and the earth will receive us again. Nothing is lost. Nothing is born. Nothing dies. We don’t need to wait until after our body has disintegrated to go back to Mother Earth. We are going back to Mother Earth at every moment. Whenever we breathe, whenever we step, we are returning to the earth."

Meeting Agenda

Sunday, July 30th, at 5:30, one hour prior to our regular weekly meeting, we will have a Sangha Care Meeting. The agenda will include plans for our upcoming Day of Mindfulness in August, reports on our library, resources, and outreach, and a proposal for Interbeing Sangha to host the monastics of Blue Cliff Monastery for a 3-day regional retreat in May 2019, in cooperation with Ottawa Pagoda Sangha.
If we agree to be regional host for the annual spring retreat in 2019, we will soon need to reserve a suitable space with accommodations for the monastics and attendees in Kingston. We may be eligible for funding from the Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation, and can count on the wise guidance of members of Ottawa Pagoda Sangha who have hosted the retreat in the past. Please join us for this discussion led by our Sangha Care Team.

"Tomorrow, I will continue to be. But you will have to be very attentive to see me. I will be a flower, or a leaf. I will be in these forms and I will say hello to you. If you are attentive enough, you will recognize me, and you may greet me. I will be very happy."

--Thich Nhat Hanh, from Awakening of the Heart: Essential Buddhist Sutras and Commentaries, 2012
