Community Based Strategic Plan

Another Key Performance Indicator was completed recently as the Active Transportation Framework was approved by Council on July 17.

The first step for the Waterfront Master Plan was approved at the June 26 Council meeting and was amended to include the splash pad as part of this initial phase.

The Strategic Initiatives Committee meeting held August 9 focused on several key financial policies and provided updates on the financial position of the Town, which is addressed in key performance indicators under the goal of Accountable Local Government.

Staff are also beginning to plan for the second annual Town Hall meeting to review the CBSP progress, so stay tuned for a date this Fall.

Council Highlights

The summer months mean a lighter Council meeting schedule. The July 17 Council meeting covered many topics, including the hospital redevelopment and the Kraft Hockeyville winnings. The next Council meeting will be held August 21st at 5:00 p.m.

Highlights from the July 17 meeting of Council:
  • Council discussed the response from the CG&MH, which noted that they would not be sharing a copy of the comments received from the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) as requested by the Town. The letter also advised that the hospital did not feel a joint Collingwood Council and Board meeting, as requested by the Town of Collingwood, is necessary, but referenced their sixth joint Mayors’ Forum scheduled for July 25, which they believed would provide the opportunity to share key components of their redevelopment journey. All correspondence between the Town and the Hospital is now available on our website.

  • Council was provided with updated information on the new Collingwood Youth Centre, expected to open in September 2017.

  • If Council wants to add a question on ranked balloting to the 2018 ballot, it will have to be decided by mid-February, 2018.

  • The $25,000 received from the 2017 Kraft Hockeyville contest will go towards an automatic sliding door from the lobby to the spectator area at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena and improved lighting efficiency in the lobby area, dressing rooms and Hall of Fame room.

Did you know?

The Town of Collingwood employs crossing guards at several spots throughout the municipality to help ensure students and pedestrians can travel safely to and from school.

While it may be summer vacation now, it won't be long until students are heading back to school and crossing guards will be back at their posts.

A reminder for the next few weeks to be cautious of children playing and enjoying their last bit of summer vacation. As of September 5, students will be heading back to school -- please remember to drive carefully and obey all crossing guards!
