Houseboats by Marc and Tracy Morales
A photo from Marc and Tracy's exhibit
Photographs by City employee Marc Morales and his wife Tracy are now on display at the Sausalito Library.

Marc is a Maintenance Worker II with the Department of Public Works who has been with the City of Sausalito for twelve years. Of an average workday in Sausalito, Marc says, "Just when you think you have your typical day figured out is when you find out that you have new jobs added that were supposed to be completed yesterday!"

When Marc and Tracy met, they were pleased to discover that they shared a passion for landscape and nature photography. Both carry a Canon SLR camera. When working as professional photographers at weddings, proms, and other special events, they call themselves "Two Canons Are Better Than One."

Marc and Tracy's photos will be on display until August 13 during open hours at the Sausalito Library.

Happy Fiscal New Year!

Fiscal Transparency Tool
A screenshot from the City of Sausalito fiscal transparency tool
On July 1, the City of Sausalito rolled over its finances into a new fiscal year. Each year, agencies working on a July 1 to June 30 fiscal year implement their newly adopted budget and begin to close the books on the old year.

The fiscal year 2017-18 budget, adopted by the City Council on June 20, represents the second year of the two-year strategic resources allocation plan adopted in June 2016. The budget has few adjustments from the original proposal. It continues initiatives the City of Sausalito started last year, such as:

Public Works
  • An increase of $166,000 in landscape maintenance contract funds for medians, the downtown area, and parks
  • A dedicated capital program management team
Community Development
  • Funds to upgrade the City's general plan over the next three years
  • An assistant planner position upgraded to senior planner to facilitate complex development projects and the general plan update process
  • A part-time code enforcement officer (contract position)
  • A part-time assistant building inspector (contract position)
Police
  • An additional parking enforcement officer
  • An additional part-time seasonal police officer
  • A part-time emergency services planner
  • A part-time harbor assistant and a part-time harbor officer to manage the City's water enforcement activities
More information about the City of Sausalito's two-year budget cycle, including background materials and departmental budget presentations can be found on the City's FY 2016-18 Budget website. The City's fiscal transparency tool also provides an in-depth view of the City's budget and finances.

Creating a Haven for Wildlife. Thousands of acres of habitat are lost to development and other human activity in the US every year. We can offset some of this loss by designing our gardens to attract and sustain native wildlife. By choosing the right plants and adding the right features, we can invite an array of birds, butterflies, bees, beneficial insects, and other animals to our gardens. At this Sausalito Library program on Thursday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, you will learn how to provide the essential ingredients for a habitat haven: food, water, cover, and nesting space. Presenter Betsy McGee has been a Marin Master Gardener since 2008. This program is part of a new series of talks by Master Gardeners presented by Sausalito Beautiful, in conjunction with the University of California Cooperative Extension Marin Master Gardeners.
