Dear the AMWA Chapter Leadership Team of the West Virginia University School of Medicine,

Congratulations on being the Founding Leaders of
West Virginia University School of Medicine's first AMWA branch!

On behalf of the American Medical Women’s Association, we would like to welcome you and thank you for being a part of the largest and oldest organization that promotes women's health and advances women in medicine. Our membership includes physicians, medical students, and premedical students, all working together further our AMWA's mission. National AMWA members, like yourself, are provided opportunities in advocacy, mentorship, scholarship, and leadership (local, regional, and national level).

As a local branch, there are many ways to get involved, including setting up events at your institution or branching out to regional and national levels. This is a great way to get your voice heard and promote collaborations! In addition, please encourage your members to join the  Student Hosting Program, which helps coordinate lodging for AMWA members during residency interviews, or  to connect with mentors via the  Mentorship Database. Lastly, our Branch Handbook acts as a starting place for your chapter to grow by sharing great tips on how to organize local branch fundraising, programming and mentoring opportunities. Fundraising initiatives and branch grants are offered throughout the year, which require an official branch number. Your official branch number is 205.

As recruiters of National AMWA members, you can become more familiar with AMWA’s student-specific benefits here and additional general member benefits here.

One of the best ways to stay connected is through AMWA’s monthly email, Student Newsflash. This is how we update you on advocacy issues, upcoming meetings, programming ideas, awards deadlines, and new resources for your members. In addition, it is a virtual space for branches to exchange ideas by highlighting and sharing local accomplishments and efforts. If your branch has events or accomplishments to share, feel free to email a description and picture of the event to our National Student Division Secretary, Hilary Friedlander at secretary@amwa-student.org.

Your Recruitment Chair, Sanju Eswaran, and your Regional Director, Lochan Shah (both cc'ed here) are great resources too. As a reminder, it is AMWA’s policy that all branch members must also be national members.

Welcome and thank you again for becoming a student leader of AMWA. Please feel free to reach out to us; we would love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Allison Ikeda
