What's New?

Designation, Recent Wins, and Hiring News

Time is flying here at MetaPhase - we’re more than halfway through 2017!  Keep reading for our latest corporate updates and milestones.

Designation:

ICYMI: Our big announcement since the last edition of ENGAGE landed in your inbox is that MetaPhase Consulting has been certified as a participant in the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program, and as a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB).  As an 8(a) certified firm, MetaPhase Consulting is now positioned to receive sole-source contracts up to $4M.

Do you have a client with potential requirements that need to get awarded quickly and easily?

Did you know that 8(a) awards can be issued in less than 30 days, cannot be protested, and require minimal documentation to complete?

Contact us to learn more about teaming with us and using the 8(a) program.  We’re on the lookout for individuals and partner companies interested in pursuing 8(a) opportunities - please send your inquiries to bd@metaphaseconsulting.com.

Recent Wins:

FDIC: We're excited to initiate work with a new client partner, supporting the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO).  We’re onboard supporting the agency in Enterprise Architecture, Portfolio Management, and Investment Governance.  Contact us to learn more.

USAID: We won an opportunity to expand our support to USAID as part of the Agency's Cloud Data Center migration.  USAID has been our longest and closest client partner, and we continue to support three active contracts within the agency.  On this contract, we’re partnered with a large integrator to plan, move, and modernize the Agency’s Data Center and Disaster Recovery.  As a result, USAID will save millions per year on Operating Expenditures that they can repurpose for other important needs.
Welcoming New Hires:
We’re growing the MetaPhase team and welcoming a new team member on board!  Kyle Ginzl joined MetaPhase Consulting this July, bringing new expertise in the areas of Enterprise Architecture and Capital Planning & Investment Control (CPIC).  Kyle brings over 10 years of federal consulting experience from top firms like Deloitte.  It's awesome to have you join us, Kyle!

The welcome party doesn't stop - we'll be adding more new faces in August.  Stay tuned!

Engage in: Supporting Clients with an International Presence
Lessons Learned from Experience with an International Agency

Over the past three years, MetaPhase has collaborated with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its Bureaus, Offices, and Missions on various IT projects and efforts.

Supporting USAID provided MetaPhase with a unique experience - supporting an organization with 85+ field offices scattered across the globe (in over 80 countries), a multicultural and multilingual workforce (US Citizens and Foreign Nationals working together), and staff with diverse educational achievements, and technical skills and expertise.

An international organization such as USAID is faced with unique challenges with respect to resources, planning, execution, and support of IT projects.  24/7 help desk to support staff across time zones is one obvious component, but other factors from technical requirements to cultural communication styles to training must also account for the unique characteristics of the international environment.  Below are a number of insights we’ve gained through support of international stakeholders:

Plan for Low-bandwidth Environments: Mobile devices and mobile applications have become an invaluable field tool for tasks such as data collection and surveys.  However, field teams often deploy to areas that lack or have limited wireless service.  Mobile applications for the field must have requirements for “off-line” capabilities and/or the ability to perform on minimal bandwidth.

Utilize Distance Learning: On-site training - while still relevant in certain sectors and for particular topics - is costly.  Distance learning must be a key component for any training strategy not just as a cost saver but because of its effectiveness.  Distance Learning means more than Computer Based Training.  It could (and in many cases should) involve live trainers with group participation delivered over the web.

Promote Knowledge Sharing & Communities of Practice: Too often staff attend a training session, return to their office/country, and either do not use or struggle to use the system or application.  Establishing and promoting forums via formal/informal Communities of Practice (COPs) allows users to engage and communicate with their peers for guidance and support.

Consider Adaptable Communications:  The communications strategy should use appropriate communication vehicles for effective cross-cultural communication.  If possible, the communications team should engage stakeholders or representatives from various global regions to help tailor messages based on cultural differences and diversity.

Giving Back

Walk MS 2017
This spring, we completed our second annual Walk MS - and we couldn’t have done it without your support!  A special ‘thank you’ to everyone who attended our fundraising happy hour on April 6, walked with us on April 30, and/or helped nudge us towards our fundraising total of $3461.  We welcomed some new faces on Walk Day this year and we look forward to adding more in 2018 - we’ll save your spot!

MetaPhase Nominated for Northern Virginia Chamber Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award
We were pleased to be in attendance for the Northern Virginia Chamber Corporate Citizen Awards program in McLean, VA on June 14.  We were truly honored to be nominated in the Small Business category for our demonstrated commitment to corporate social responsibility.  We often refer to ourselves as a small company making big impact so it meant a lot for our efforts to be noticed.

Check out the Chamber’s blog for more insights into the MetaPhase Giving Back philosophy from Chief Executive Officer Fred Costa.

Summer Gathering + FACETS Back to School Supply Drive
It seems like the summer just got started but the return of school days is right around the corner.  Why not join us for a happy hour to commemorate both?

On Thursday, August 3, MetaPhase will host a school supply drive/fundraising happy hour at Darna at 946 N. Jackson Street in Arlington, VA.  All contributions will go toward our Giving Back partner, FACETS, to help ensure that school children impacted by poverty in Fairfax County will have everything they need going into the new school year.

The MetaPhase team looks forward to our annual tradition of helping FACETS distribute donated supplies to students at an event in August.

Some of this year’s most needed items include: backpacks (especially for high schoolers), 3-ring binders, notebooks, earbuds or headphones, 2GB flash drives, and gift cards to Target and Walmart.  Monetary donations are also welcome.

Don’t keep a good thing to yourself - feel free to bring along a friend or two!  See you there!

A Special Thanks to Departing FACETS Board Member, John LaPorta
We don’t take the role, importance, and contributions of the ‘friends and family of MetaPhase’ lightly, and this is especially true when it comes to John LaPorta.  It is through him that we established our first Giving Back connection with FACETS, making an introduction that would help build the foundation for our corporate philanthropic activities.  As his term serving on the board has come to a close, we just want to send a huge, heartfelt ‘thank you’ for your encouragement and confidence in MetaPhase.
