Dear All,

We have come to the end of the summer term and the end of another academic year and what a successful one it was; Ofsted came in January and reported we were a 'good' school and all our children (and staff) worked hard. We also achieved good results in our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 SATs. We had a busy year with many events and trips including a whole school trip to the Rock N Roll panto, a zoo trip to see the Penguins, a trip to the Latitude festival and a residential week for our older children.

The year came to a close with a very busy final week - two amazing performances of Cinderella and Rockerfella on Thursday and a successful 'End of Year' assembly yesterday.

I would like to wish you all a happy, safe and relaxing holiday and on behalf of myself and the staff say a big thank you for the generous gifts we received.

Mrs Karen Bilner
Headteacher

NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Here's a snapshot of what has been going on in school. Don't forget that regular news and updates are posted on our website and Facebook pages.

On Thursday 20th July, children from Swans class performed Cinderella & Rockerfella to packed audiences. An amazing amount of talent was seen; fantastic acting, singing and dancing from all children.  <read more>

On Wednesday 12th July, all the Year 4s, along with those from other schools in our pyramid, attended a special, rocket-themed Science day at East Bergholt High School. Over the day, the children learnt how to build and launch their own water rockets. I’m proud to say that Stratford’s rockets stayed in the air the longest!

On Friday 14th July, the Owls class visited the Latitude Festival. For the first part of the day we explored the Kids’ Area, where we took part in art and craft activities, painted our faces, handled snakes and had our faces painted. We then split into two groups. Mr Wheals’ group took part in a Science workshop about microbes.

One afternoon, after lunch,  the children came into the classroom and discovered a note and an egg on the toadstool. The children read the note and discovered it was a dinosaur egg. The note told the children they had to follow the instructions to help the baby dinosaur to grow.  <Read More>

Children from ABC Pre – School, Kingfishers and Woodpecker Class carried their teddies to the field for a teddy bears picnic. The children had their own box with sandwiches, sausage roll, carrot and cucumber sticks, grapes, bear biscuits and a carton of juice. The children ate their food and really enjoyed it; they then and  said ‘Thank you’ to Rachel (the cook) for their lunch. <Read More>

On Monday 10th July, Mr Bassett and Mrs Bilner accompanied 19 Swans to PGL –  Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire for their 4 night, 5 day residential trip.

After setting off at 9.15am, we stopped at Hinchingbrook Country Park in Huntingdon for our picnic lunch and a run around before carrying on to PGL.  After arriving, we all unpacked and had a tour of the centre and played some games before tea and more games. <Read More>

On Wednesday 19th we had a film crew in school shooting interviews with the children and filming around the school. The children talked about the school and what their favourite subjects are. They all did really well in front of the camera.  Well done to Josh who helped with the filming and was boom operator during the shoot. Look out for the finished video that will be coming out next term!

We previously advised that from September, Year 1 children would spend the morning with our Reception children and the afternoon with Year 2.  However, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were advised this week by the Local Authority, that we were not allowed to structure the classes in this way.

Therefore from September, Reception and Year 1 will be 'Kingfishers' and taught all day by Miss Jones and Year 2 will be 'Woodpeckers' and taught by Miss Kluge.

Apologies for the late notice. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to get in touch -  head@stratfordstmary.suffolk.sch.uk
