Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter will be emailed every Monday to those of you on our mailing list. We would rather email to keep 'paper wise', but if you need a hard copy please let Jane know in the office and she will put one in your child's message pocket.
Please read these Monday Newsletters each week as IMPORTANT and all relevant information about the school, your children's classroom activities and the functions at the school will be written in it.
This newsletter is a very important form of communication.

 Our school cell: 079 408 2575.
This phone can be used mornings as well as afternoons.
Welcome back to TERM 3!!!!
We are excited to be back and guarantee a happy and fun term ahead.
We have our ART AUCTION this term and are looking forward to a great evening on 1st September. Details about the Auction will be in next week’s newsletter.
Jane is enjoying her last week of holiday in New York City and will be back with us at school next Monday. Kay is in the office in the mean-time.
Any fee queries can be directed to me or Phyllis and emailed to accounts@fhpps.co.za

HOLIDAY CARE
Thanks to all the holiday staff for all the wonderful care and activities during the holidays.

STAY AND PLAY
Ingrid fell and hurt her wrist during the holidays, one evening at home, and will not be at school until 1st September. She had an operation to set her hand and needs time at home to heal. I will be getting a replacement teacher to assist Jo and will let you know who she is as soon as I can. In the meantime, we will shift assistants around so that we cover Ingrid’s position.
JO BAIILEY WILL BE IN CHARGE DURING THIS TIME- 076 4128157

Dad’s Day
We had a wonderful last day of term with our dads. Thank you dads for attending and making the day with your children so special.
Thank you to the moms and dads for providing the sausage, for helping to braai and for the raffle items that were donated.
Huge thank you to Stacy for her help in the kitchen during the morning and for packaging the raffles. Your help was much appreciated!!!!

WORMS! WORMS! WORMS! AND WORM TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have some deliciously fat worms in our wormery at school as well as worm tea that we would like to sell or swop for some vegetables for our veggie garden or plants, particularly cacti for the bed at the front gate.
We are having trouble with vagrants sleeping in the flower bed and need to plant some ‘spiky’ plants to deter them.
Please come and chat with us in the office if you have an interest in the worms.

FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.

WANTED
WE HAVE PLENTY OF NEWSPAPER ONLY DRAWING PAPER NEEDED PLEASE! ALSO PLEASE NO MORE EGG BOXES FOR A WHILE WE HAVE PLENTY!

Thank you to those parents who have brought in paper for us. Please continue to bring it in.
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

Please make contact with Phyllis if you have any fee related questions. (accounts@fhpps.co.za)

SOUP FOR A FRIEND EVERY WEDNESDAY

So wholesome and nutritious!
Some bread with the soup would be wonderful too.
We have a roster on the notice board. Please fill it in on a week that will suit you. We require 4 x 2 litre containers each Wednesday, so two people could provide on one day. If you do not have containers please fetch ours from the office a day or two before.
Vegetable soup is the best option for the children.

Welcome back to Term 3. We trust you had a relaxing holiday and enjoyed some quality time with your children. Our main event for this term is The Art Auction which takes place on Friday 1 September. Every two years our school does this fund raising event. Each child makes an individual picture which you can buy and the class work as a group to make items such as table clothes, mosaic coasters or mosaic mirrors that are auctioned on the night of the event. Please diarise this date and try and attend as it is always a great and fun filled evening.

During the holidays I listened to a talk radio programme where they discussed the need for school to educate children in life skills. They mentioned teaching them to make the right choices and not to always follow their peers. Some businesses are having workshops to help educate their staff in this regard. I was so pleased to hear the talk and delighted to know that this is what we teach at our school in our EQ lessons and throughout the day when we interact with our children. This term I will revise and recap what we've learned and discussed- being a good friend, sharing and taking turns, working co-operatively together. Most EQ themes interlink and from the beginning of the year we encourage the children to pack their bags and to look after their belonging. This term we will discuss taking responsibility of our belonging and actions. We always impress upon the children to be honest and to own up to mistakes or errors and give them lots of praise when they do. They need to learn to be responsible for their actions and that there are consequences for their behaviour but honesty is important.

Our general theme is Road Safety and Transport. On Monday 31 July we will go for a walk around the Wetlands to see the changes in the area after the rain and to look at road signs on the way. Please sign and return the indemnity form by Friday 28 July.
I will send out the themes for the term, on it you will notice Grade R Mathematics as well as the other concepts being taught. I follow the required CAPS curriculum for Grade R and attended a maths workshop during the first week of the holidays. The department are creating a prescribed curriculum of what to teach each week. It is only a minimum requirement and we are allowed to extend it. You will notice this term we should only be learning number 6, 7 and 8. In the weeks they are required to be taught I will recap those numbers and sing actions songs about them.
In the first two terms we concentrated on the days of the week and now move on to the months of the year. We have been learning them but will now build up on the children's knowledge and extend it by making them aware of the ordinal position of the months eg: What is the third month of the year? What month comes between April and June. What month comes after July? etc
Our Letter is L l- Please send things in for the table.
We look forward to another fun filled term with your children. Please remember to pack a change of clothing as the equipment is often wet. Pack the clothes in a plastic bag and label it with your child's name.  These clothes can be left at school.
Have a good week

Welcome back after your restful and relaxing Winter holiday to our fun and exciting 3rd term.
Our Art Auction on the 1st September is an important date to diarise.  The children are going to be making an individual art to buy, along with class items e.g. Mosaics and handmade table cloths.  We will keep you posted on our progress!
For the first two weeks we will be discussing "Proudly SA and People from other countries".  If you have any items from other countries that you have visited or books, please encourage your children to bring them.  We will be having a "Proudly SA and People from other countries" dress up on  Friday 4 August.  I will put some past photo's up in the class to give you some ideas.  Your child may dress up in something South African(Springbok jersey) or may dress up from another country (Scottish kilt, one of the queens guards)
This term our EQ theme is "Going for Goals".  We encourage the children to set individual goals and try to achieve them.  Our class goal is to "Tie their shoelaces".  Last year I had 16 children who achieved the goal by the end of Term 3.  We discuss the need to be persistent and resilient in achieving their goal.  We give them constant encouragement and praise for trying.  Individual goals could be doing the Monkey bars, skipping with a rope, riding a bicycle without training wheels, bouncing and catching a ball, roller skating -  anything age-appropriate they would like to achieve.  Please discuss with your child what their goal is going to be and place it in the "Going for Goals" box above the drying rack in our classroom.
Continue to play number games with your children to broaden their understanding of numbers and concepts.  Do little activities to strengthen their fine motor skills; e.g. pegging washing, folding socks, threading activities, pegging activities, puzzles, play dough.
When your child draws and cuts, keep an eye on their pencil grip and encourage them to add colour and detail.  When cutting encourage them to go slowly and to follow the outlines closely.
Dates to Diarise:
Friday 4 August - Proudly SA and People from other countries dress up
Wednesday 9 August - Women's Day - School holiday
Friday 18 August - Penguin/Rainbow cake sale
Friday 25 August - Naptosa Conference - Teachers will be away for the day
Friday 1 September - ART AUCTION
Wishing you all a happy and blessed week

Our theme for the first two weeks of the third term is proudly SA and people from other countries. Please feel free to bring any books on our or other countries from home, not to mention if you have visited another country and have interesting items your child would like to bring and show the class. We will be having a proudly SA and people from other countries dress up day on Friday, 4 August. For example, a Springbok jersey to represent SA.

A warm welcome to the third term!!!
Hope you had a fabulous time this holiday and can't wait to hear all about it from the children.

We are going to do so many fun things and of course we will learn a lot and help children have a meaningful term.
A special thanks to all the dads who attended our father's day. It was super!!!
