Click to Watch - Pitt's Lyke & Delaware's Rawak: Organizational Planning as a New AD
South Alabama AD Erdmann on his collapsed FB practice facility, "What we’ll do is let some time pass and let the experts look at the situation. If there’s a need to adjust, then we’ll do that. When it is completed, it’s something we’ll be very proud of and something that will make us better." WKRG News 5 indicates options include moving forward with the same design or drawing up new plans. No comment from the construction companies involved, including Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood out of Mobile as the project architect. (link)
Here was Ole Miss Interim FB HC Luke's message to his team after Friday's workout, "What your locker looks like, in the classroom, social media, do every thing right. Let 'em know that we're in this thing together no matter what. Hey, we've seen it all, right? They keep throwing it at us, we're gonna keep getting up together. Finish strong in class. Have an awesome day." (link)
HBR: Hogan Assessment Systems CEO and Columbia faculty member Chamorro-Premuzic answers "How to Deal with a Boss Who Stresses You Out." There are seven major types of problematic leaders: 1. incompetent; 2. rigid; 3. intemperate; 4. callous; 5. corrupt; 6. insular; and 7. evil; and to compensate for these leaders you must 1. Get inside their mind - regardless of how bad the boss is, he/she is likely consistent, so figure out his/her behavioral patterns and you will be better prepared. "Derailers" of his/her behavior could include being excitable, skeptical, cautious, reserved, leisurely, bold, mischievous, colorful, imaginative, diligent and dutiful; 2. Don't be a source of stress yourself - remember every manager has a bright side and if you tame your own derailers you can become a more soothing influence on your boss; 3. Make your boss look good - get some leverage, make yourself indispensable. More (link)
Experiencing the World presented by Anthony Travel
As the crow flies, it's 1,447 miles between Tucson, AZ & Bloomington, IN, but the MBB HCs of Arizona & Indiana are quite familiar with one another, making a reported high-profile multi-year series between the Wildcats & Hoosiers much easier to set in motion. FanRagSports.com's Rothstein indicates the 2019-20 matchup would be played at UA, 20-21 at IU & then 21-22 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. (link)

With an NABC committee looking at the possibility of expanding the MBB tourney, ESPN's Lunardi explores the idea, ultimately settling that expanding the tournament to at least 72 teams would be good for the sport. Lunardi: "So I say 'yes' to expansion, but not for its own sake or to save a few coaching jobs. Let's be judicious and achieve a greater good. All we need is one more site and a second network. In other words, we can do this. Everybody wins." One unnamed HC: "Division I has grown by leaps and bounds since 1985, so we shouldn't be trapped by that number moving forward." Further, Lunardi would like to see the play-in game concept expand to regular season conference champions who didn't get selected to the Tourney. (link)
ESPN's Medcalf inked on the increasingly important role Strength & Conditioning staffs are playing in college hoops, points to Michael Jordan's renowned strength programs back in the 80s & 90s as the possible jumping off point for the sport to recognize the importance of dynamic training. Notre Dame MBB HC Brey: "They're every bit as important as the college football strength coaches because we're always sensitive to who is the guy in the weight room with our guys. It can be quite a little bidding war." Minnesota HC Pitino calls his strength coach "maybe the most important person in my program." Cincinnati HC Cronin says strength coaches have to be empowered to be effective. (link)
Former Penn State FB HC O'Brien, now the leader of the Houston Texans, did a Q&A with StateCollege.com. Says that when he interviewed for the gig in State College, he was under the impression that the lingering issues around the Sandusky scandal were considered a criminal case and that the NCAA had no jurisdiction in the matter, but admits he would have taken the job even if he knew that 199 days later the school would be hit by the NCAA ruling. In his efforts to keep the team together after the ruling, a staff member would stand up and address the team every morning about the importance of PSU football and sticking together and he extended an offer for every FB letterman to come back to campus for dinner to mingle with the players and talk about what it meant to be a Penn State football player. Praises his wife, players, and staff for the success he had in the two years with the Nittany Lions. Lots, lots more.  (link)
Despite price increases ranging from $100 to $120 per ticket, Wichita State fans are continuing to buy MBB season tickets, as many are excited about the school's transition to the AAC. WSU reports 97% of account-holders have renewed their tickets and that roughly 700 fans have requested a seat upgrade. Season ticket holder Manson: "I don’t even remember how much my tickets went up. It didn’t bother me. Everybody is so happy about the direction and having those types of teams come in for conference games, compared to what we’ve had, is certainly worth the extra money." (link)
Bucknell AD Hardt joins the FCS ADA Executive Committee, "I am excited to represent Bucknell and the Patriot League on the FCS ADA Executive Committee. FCS football has continued to grow in popularity and prestige, and the FCS playoffs are annually among the most highly regarded championships offered by the NCAA." (link); Sports Law Associates' Judge joined Holland & Knight late last month, "College sports is evolving at a pretty accelerated pace and it’s just a great opportunity to build on some mutual strengths. It’s just a perfect fit." (link)
Somewhat funny, somewhat interesting as SI's Deitsch caught up with over two dozen play-by-play & sports TV analysts on what they eat to get through an overtime stanza. ESPN's Amin notes his need for Kit Kats. Fox Sports' Brando points to the variable kick-off times in college FB that dictate what he eats before the game, jokes that OT "is a killer for post game cocktails with [Bill] Raft [Raftery]." Alabama radioman Gold points to Diet Coke. ESPN's Mowins: Skittles & a Power Bar. Fellow Worldwide Leader peer & college FB mainstay Tessitore is addicted to espresso. More. (link)
MANDTVR: VR & 360-Degree Experiences
Colorado Chancellor DiStefano, in the aftermath of the saga surrounding former FB AC Tumpkin, has laid out six goals for his university to "right wrongs" in a memo called "A culture of collaboration: Moving us beyond compliance." Included in the goals: 1. Ensure the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance be recognized as the "most essential partner" for questions and resources regarding sexual misconduct and abuse; 2. Bring the athletics department "more fully into the fabric of the university;" 3. Educate the entire campus on policies, prevention and response goals surrounding sexual misconduct; 4. Make the CU legal team the "first stop" for campus leaders in understanding legal compliance responsibilities and policies and where to go for help; 5. Recognize the Strategic Relations and Communications team as the "essential partner" in communicating internally and externally. SVC/CFO Fox has been asked to spearhead DiStefano's efforts. (link)
Notre Dame Senior Deputy AD for Sport Operations Conboy helped lead the massive Campus Crossroads construction process that's ready for the 2017 FB season, "We want fans visiting Notre Dame Stadium for the first time to say that the experience is exactly what they expected from Notre Dame. We want returning fans to feel that this is how it should have been all along." In addition to the high-profile upgrades of new video boards, seats, a new audio system & facility-wide WiFi, major improvements were also made to the restroom situation, the addition of benches & drink rails, plus new portable concession stands. (link)
Sparta Science is using its force plate technology and proprietary software to help athletes prevent injury, stay healthy and get the most out of their athletic ability. The company counts MLB, NBA, NFL and MLS teams along with several colleges as clients. Kansas Asst. AD for Sports Performance Hudy on the service and founder Wagner: "He's sitting on a gold mine. It's reliable. ... Now there's predictability for possible injuries. ... It has set us apart from the industry standard." Since hiring Sparta, San Francisco's medical insurance claims for student-athletes dropped from $424K in 2011-12 to $168K in 2015-16. USF Assoc. AD for Sports Administration and Performance Padron: "Our student athletes are having a great experience because they're healthy. I don't know why others wouldn't do it. Analytics are everywhere. I don't think there's a better thing to spend money on than the student-athlete experience." (link)
Missouri State & Learfield Licensing Partners ink a partnership for LLP to "help maximize exposure opportunities for Missouri State with aggressive retail merchandising and brand development, along with handling the day-to-day management duties of the university's trademark licensing program." MSU VP for Marketing & Communications Shaw: "We look forward to a productive partnership that will expand the fan base of the university." (link)
Instagram is besting Snapchat in another key area: Usage by uber-popular social media influencers is flowing back to Insta as its Stories vertical is gaining additional traction. Just 15 months ago, 25-year-old Markowitz was nominated as a "Snapchatter of the Year," pitting him for an award that eventually went to DJ Khaled. Today, he's all about Instagram, not Snap. Markowitz: "Snapchat should've went back to the drawing board and figured out a new way to compete, instead of being romantic to how [it] has been running for the last couple of years." Last month, Instagram Stories did 250M daily unique users versus Snapchat's 166M. More. (link)
Also Noticed: North Carolina received the latest response from the NCAA in connection to the ongoing academic review. No word on the contents as the university goes through the redaction process. (link); UCLA AD Guerrero pegged as the 23rd most powerful person in the Los Angeles sports scene. (link); USC is looking to "cut ties" with former med school Dean Puliafito, who was all over the news last week for his questionable behavior. (link); The Ringer's Simmons: "Hopefully networks are realizing that split-screen advertising works during live sporting events - super-effective during the Open today." (link); ESPN Radio's new Golic-Wingo show will debut on November 27th. (link)

Missouri State's deal with Learfield Licensing Partners means someone on the Bears staff is going to run with the new relationships & here's a recent 1.Q with MSU AD Kyle Moats on how he aids his team members in leading their own departments. There's also some interesting insights from Moats on what it's like to have worked in senior leadership roles at both Louisville & Kentucky, resume highlights that maybe only Cards MBB HC Pitino can also lay claim to.
