Kia ora Toru friend,

I hope you are keeping warm and well through these winter months. This newsletter is about connecting and networking and is packed with articles and podcasts to read and listen to by the fireside. And of course, it includes all the links to the upcoming Toru courses. After all, Toru style is all about hands-on, together, experiential, off line and real!

Thank you to Simon Jarvis for the slick new Toru logo, and Bob Zuur for the photos!

Enjoy!  Doris, for the Toru Education Trust.

"Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect."

Chief Seattle

This beautiful quote on connectedness by Chief Seattle describes one of the main intentions of Toru Education, embracing a core principle of permaculture. We have gathered ways and views of a number of people resonating with this theme, ranging from local to international:

Toru trustee, Gary Williams from Otaki: Speaking about water as the source of life and connecting conduit of all  realms— listen here; or on permaculture principles as applied to food forests — listen here.

Max Harris from Wellington: ‘The New Zealand Project: talking about the importance of local community connections. Listen to the RadioNZ interview over here, or read the script for his talk article is here [pdf].

Charles Eisenstein: Talking at New Frontier 2017 about "changing from a story of separation into a story of ‘inter-being’ and connectedness", you can listen to it here.

What's on or coming up?

The bread baking course this Saturday is full, but there is another one on the 2 September
Book bread making now
We may still huddle around the fire during the cold evenings, but out in the garden, it is already getting busy. There are plenty of broad beans to share, the garlic is spouting and daffodils are busy telling us about spring! Amazing how the garden keeps providing us with greens and flowers throughout. Keen to grown your own food, too? Come and join us for the weekend and learn from expert Rachel and be hosted by Doris with fresh food from the garden.
