The winter school holidays are drawing to an end and we have a lot to celebrate from the past term.

Most notably, we held our annual team building week and AGM at the SunSquare Cape Town Hotel at the end of June. Our mentors from four different provinces congregated for the week to learn from and share with one another.

Our AGM was attended by donors, partners, supporters and friends of Edupeg where we released our 2016 Annual Report which highlights the achievements and transformation of our principals and mentored teachers.

We also showcased our 2016 Highlights video which focused on our KwaZulu-Natal schools and their feedback on our support over the past year:

Thank you to all our generous donors, supporters, Department of Education officials, friends and colleagues for an amazing year!
We are thrilled to announce that the Edupeg Mentoring Programme has been officially accredited by the South African Council for Educators (SACE). Teachers on our mentoring programme will obtain 45 Continuous Professional Development (CPTD) points for taking part. Thank you to everyone who made this process possible.
Our second Lead Like a Champion workshops were held at 30 schools over the course of Term 2. The aim of these was to support leadership teams with techniques that instructional leaders can use to improve learner achievement in schools by equipping them with tools to model, monitor, coach and support their teachers.
Participants sharing their successes and challenges with colleagues from other schools, held at Bonisanani Primary School.
We were super excited to receive this inspirational video from Doug Lemov himself, author of Teach Like a Champion, who had this to say "I’ve been following Edupeg’s important work supporting teachers in South Africa and am inspired. Teachers do the most important work in society, but that doesn’t mean the work is easy. So teachers deserve to receive the very best support. For that reason I’m ecstatic that there’s an organization like Edupeg that works so hard to provide them with tools that allow them to love their work, stay in the teaching profession and ensure that children thrive and learn. I’ve watched a few videos now of teachers in South Africa and am humbled by their commitment to being the very best. Thanks to everyone at Edupeg for helping to build such a vibrant and positive culture of teaching." Thanks for the encouragement Doug!
With the generous donations from Corevest and Tsogo Sun we’ve embarked on a project to put in reading corners comprised of 1100 books to three of our supported schools in the Western Cape. The aim of this project is to create a culture and love of reading among these learners. In order to ensure their longevity we set about covering these books in plastic. As part of Mandela Day, the Avis Fleet joined our team to complete the process of covering the books. We then joined their team and headed off to Grand West Casino to pack food parcels for Stop Hunger Now. It was a day well spent and both projects will go well beyond 67 minutes.
Western Cape Edupeg Mentors and their teachers enjoyed a wonderful day with the Earthchild Project at the Teachers Wellness Convention, ‘A day to celebrate our unsung heroes’. Workshops included; yoga and dance, health, nutrition and diet, meditation and stress management and healing massage treatments. The benefits included practical tools to manage stress, knowledge on how to improve health and well-being and feeling relaxed, revitalised and inspired.
This blog features Vuba Primary School principal, Mrs Sibhozo, who says "When I see my mentors, these words come to mind: ‘Here comes help, they bring light".
"Edupeg brought lifetime solutions." Mrs Xinwa reached out to our Edupeg mentor, Avryl Smith, and together they have seen the power of how small changes can make a big difference. Read more on their journey together.
Wishing all teachers a relaxing last few days of holiday & a successful start to Term 3.
