Important information to share...

We have completed a comprehensive review of our Marriage Preparation courses and have made a few substantial changes.

Frequency of courses: There are only four weekend courses offered between October 2017 and June 2018 and there will be one six week course offered in April/May 2018.

Price: new $190 Increased to reflect the cost of supplying each couple an additional online resource to access beyond the course called More than Friends.

Location: Two courses will be held at St. Paul's, Kanata and two at Epiphany, Ottawa and the six week course at the Cathedral.

Why?

The rationale for these changes is based on survey feedback from clergy and past participants. Although price, frequency, and location were identified obstacles to participation, historically we were offering more courses than we could fill, in locations that didn't draw enough participants, and at a price that is revenue neutral. 

So we have aligned the frequency, price and location to ensure that we provide a high quality course experience.

What can you tell prospective couples?

The Marriage Preparation Course is designed to help participants to learn and grow through presentations given by professional speakers, small group discussions with trained facilitators, and couple conversations. All couples are welcome and participation is not limited based gender, age, or previous marital status. Small groups are designed so that couples with shared experience may benefit from conversations with one another. Topics such as step-parenting and blending families will be addressed in small group sessions, where appropriate.

Anyone who contacts you regarding the possibility of a wedding should be given the course dates right away. Many couples don't have enough time to schedule the course if they wait to learn about it when they meet with clergy.

Marriage preparation is not an option in our Diocese. The course is recommended as a means for clergy to ensure that couples are prepared.
