In the second week of our series we focused on the 7 letters to the 7 churches and their uniform construction and message. Each of the letters were written to large churches at the time and were expected to be read to every church.
Each letter was addressed to the Angel of that Church or the presence of God
Cities are large 70-150 thousand people
Ends with the same language for each church
All are a call to living as disciples in a world of persecution
The structure of each of the letters was also the same.
They began with a stated theology about Christ
Revealed divine knowledge
Praise for their church
Call to obedience
Promise of future blessing
We learn two things from these letters. The first is that they are meant to be encouraging at a time when being a Christian had enormous risk and could even lead to death. And secondly, that if Jesus were to come back, that it would mean that we were being disobedient as disciples.
These letters were not written to scare the community but were written as reminders that God is with us in all things and that we can be faithful even in the harshest environment. Did you know that Revelation was a book of hope?

Thank you to everyone who came and helped last weekend for our big blow out sale! We cleared out so much stuff in the garage and met lots of new people who had no idea we had a thrift store. In addition, we made over $700 a quarter at a time. It was crazy and we are glad it is over. We celebrated our volunteers with a lovely dinner at Ginny Walkers house and look forward to continuing this wonderful ministry.
