In 2016, the Han-Schneider International Children’s Foundation started a pilot program in Tanzania –Student of the Month – in which the teachers pick a student each month. The Student of the Month is selected based on outstanding achievement in the following categories: attendance, completion of homework & participation in class. The students selected receive recognition from their peers and a small gift to encourage the other students to work hard and achieve the same success. 
 
Due to the success of the pilot program in Tanzania, we expanded this program to our pre-school in Balang, Cambodia. These two children are our inaugural recipients of Student of the Month at Han-Schneider Balang Pre-School.
 

Raka Leap is five years old. Her favorite color is Lotus, which symbolizes purity in the Buddhist religion. Her favorite subject at Balang Pre-School is Khmer – the official language of Cambodia. When she’s not in school she helps her parents with house chores and washing dishes. When Raka grows up she wants to help people and become a doctor. She lives with her mother and father in Balang Village minutes from her school. Her favorite thing about attending the Han-Schneider Balang Pre-School is looking at all the pictures on the walls and learning English. 

 
Sokna Leap is six years old very smart little boy. His favorite subject in school is anything to do with numbers. His favorite color is yellow and when he grows up he wants to protect others by becoming a police officer. He lives with his mother and father about a 10 minute walk from Balang Pre-School. At home he helps his parents with their work and his daily chores. At school, when he’s not busy studying math, he loves putting puzzles together.
 
These children aren’t much different from our children, they love and care about their future as much as any other child would, however they were not privileged with the resources to secure their dreams for a better life. With your support, Balang Preschool is their path to chase their dreams and ensure their future full of opportunity.
