We're sad to say that Emilie Franke, one of HerChesapeake's founding officers, has left us to begin her master's at the University of Washington. While we're happy for her as she takes this next step, we'll miss the  positivity, creative thinking, and guidance that she brought to HerChesapeake. Thank you, Emilie, for all of your hard work and for helping to write HerChesapeake's story!

Coastal Connections

Change is always a good opportunity for reflection. Leaving a place that you have lived, worked, and loved for four years is definitely a change! I reflected often (both intentionally and unintentionally) leading up to my departure from the Chesapeake Bay region.

My first sentiment was sadness. Sad to leave all the amazing friends, colleagues, and the beautiful Bay watershed that welcomed me when I moved here. That sadness quickly turned to gratitude as I think about how incredibly lucky I am to have become part of the Chesapeake Bay community on personal and professional levels.

Since I recently left for the West Coast, I find myself constantly wanting to tell everyone I meet all about the Bay watershed, the people that live there, and of course the fish and crabs. It's one of those things that I can naturally talk about for hours because it's become part of my identity.

The combination of everything I've learned, experienced, and—most importantly—the people I've met is a unique combination. I'm excited to start a new adventure and experience something totally new. But you can bet I'll be proudly spreading the word about your great work and how special the Chesapeake Bay is to me!
