Abney Park
Sunday 16th July
Abney And The Abolitionists Tour at 1pm:
led by Alan Gartrell
In July 1833 Parliament gave the third reading to The Slavery Abolition Act.
This informative tour will discuss Abney's links with the slave trade, missionaries, abolitionists and one of the world's oldest charities, the Anti Slavery Society.
Nonconformists played a significant role in maintaining popular movements against the slave trade and slavery in the 18th and 19th centuries. Hackney has many close associations with these radical and evangelical movements, and many contributors are buried in Abney.
Find out more about these history changing individuals on this tour.
