Greetings Spinners,

The 1st person who identified the 5 Spinners who participated in the Spotted Cow Ride on Sat July 15th is Craig Gronau. Actually there were 6 of us--Fred, Todd, Brian, Rick, Jeff & Wendy. Apologizes to Wendy for not considering her in the group photo because you were there right in the front row. Best of luck in the MS Ride.

There were 16 Spinners heading SW into Shirland/Harrison area last Tuesday on a very "juicy" night. There were several "splits" in the Peloton with 3 Hammers, 5 Rabbits, and the rest being Crabbits. One of the Hammers had a flat and as the Rabbits went by there was a request to do the pumping of the tire so the Hammers could save their strength but the Rabbits needed to preserve their own strength for the Rockton Mountains.

Here is Hammer Fred's account of last Tuesday's ride:

Hi Rick,

As you noticed, we had a little hiccup in our ride last night.  John said to tell you that I took one for the team by removing debris from the road with my tire.  Thanks to John and Tom, we were able to replace my tube in a relatively timely manner.

After our repair stop, we continued down Forest Preserve Road into the beautiful Sugar River Forest Preserve.  After completing the loop in the park, we headed south on Hauley into Shirland.  We continued south into Harrison and headed west on the quiet Stephens Road.  Our trip eventually got us into Rockton where we headed out Rockton Road to South Bluff and back to the bike shop.  The trip was about 39 miles.

Thanks,
Fred

The juicy weather is supposed to mitigate by next Tuesday & the forecast right now looks pretty good.

Shown below is an article that appeared in the BDN recently about the Bike/Ped Study that is currently being conducted by our local Municipal Planning Organization also known as SLATS. Several Spinners are on this committee and will be lobbyists for various Bike/Ped issues but anybody can weigh in on the survey that is accessible per info below:

www.surveymonkey.com/r/SLATS

You are highly encouraged to complete the survey and express your thoughts on how to improve the bike/ped system in the Stateline area. Keep in mind that our local MPO (Municipal Planning Organization) encompasses not only Southern Wisconsin but also Northern Illinois excluding Rockford.

From Jeff Johnson:

The next Spinner "Night Ride" will be Wednesday, July 26th at 7:30 PM.  Meet in the parking lot behind Beloit Bicycle Company.  This 2 hour slow ride will circumnavigate the east and west sides of Beloit for 22 miles of lighted fun.  Wear high visibility clothing and bring headlamp and  blinkies.  Leave the sunglasses and sunscreen at home.  Embrace the darkness!

Cheers

LiteSpeed Rick
