Until the Job is Done
President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines has requested Congress to extend martial law on the island of Mindanao until the end of the year. Though most of the Islamic militant forces have been pushed from the city of Marawi, they still hold control in pockets of areas and President Duterte is convinced that the rebellion "will not be quelled by 22nd July 2017" when martial law was scheduled to end.

Russia
Earthquake
A powerful earthquake with a 7.8 magnitude off the coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula triggered a tsunami warning in parts of the Pacific. The quake was initially reported as a 7.7 before coming down to a 7.4 and finally upgraded to a 7.8. Since the earthquake was far from any mainland, there were no immediate reports of any casualties or damages.  The U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported that based on all available data, the tsunami threat from the quake has passed.
