FPCT Messages

19 July 2017

Do you value this weekly bulletin? Could you join a team to help produce it?

A message from the Chairman of FPCT
Roger Mills, who has been sending these  notices out for the last three years, retired at the AGM on 6 July, which leaves us without an editor.  If you know of anyone who would like to take on or share in this role, we would be delighted to hear from them. The weekly messages are a vital communication tool in FPCT, and it would be a shame if they have to cease due to lack of a volunteer/volunteers. Full training will be given!
If you can help, or know someone who might, please e-mail
info@falmouthchurchestogether.org.uk asap - many thanks!

LIVING SIMPLY

Liberation Theology? What on earth has that got to do with us? We're British! : a six-session course - coming soon

A new study course presented by Revd Roy and Shirley Howe, covering issues of social and ecological justice as they affect life in this country now. Roy writes:
We will seek to identify people who are most adversely affected by the way our communal life is developing.
We will consider the degradation of our living world and ask if this is simply an unfortunate consequence of Progress.
If we beieve these things matter we will look for ways in which ordinary people like us can perhaps make a difference, taking into account how other cultures in the past have dealt with their situations.
All particants will have opportunity to share their knowledge, expertise, imagination and humour in a relaxed atmosphere.
We are calling the course "Liberation Theology? What on earth has that got to do with us? We're British!"
Come and have fun!

Dates to be arranged, probably beginning early in September;  if you are interested, please e-mail info@falmouthchurchestogether.org.uk and we will send details when available.

Season of Creation

September 1, 2017 - October 4, 2017

Christians pray and care for creation, together.

September 1 was proclaimed as the World Day of Prayer for Creation by the Orthodox Church in 1989, and many other Christian churches have joined since then, with Pope Francis most recently in 2015. It was then extended to be a month-long Season of Creation, ending on October 4 (Feast of St. Francis).
Look out for events in Falmouth & Penryn - details coming soon

THIS WEEK

Christian Refugees: the work of the International Christian Consulate in Greece, Thur 20 Jul, 7.30pm, Central Methodist Church, Helston

Howard Stern and Yochana Darling of the International Christian Consulate are over from Greece where they have been working flat out rescuing Christian men women and children from the persecution and violence which they experience within the refugee camps. This is important, front-line, work and they have very moving video testimonies of life as a Christian in the Middle East.
The violence that the Christians experience in the refugee camps – and the reception centres in Europe - is seldom reported by the media and remains a ‘hidden tragedy’.  ICC have raised funds to open five Safe Houses and more are planned.
Do come to hear about, and so support, our brothers and sisters who are paying the ultimate price for their faith.

Project Griffin Awareness Sessions: counter terrorism awareness initiative presented by Devon and Cornwall Police, Tue 15 Aug, 2-4pm & 6-8pm, New County Hall, Truro

Project Griffin Awareness Sessions will be presented at:
  • New County Hall in Truro Tuesday 15th August 2-4pm and 6-8pm
  • St Johns Hall in Penzance Wednesday 23rd August 2-4pm and 6-8pm
Project Griffin is a national counter terrorism awareness initiative for business and event organisers. Its primary mission is to engage, encourage and enable members of the community to work in partnership with the police to deter, detect and counter terrorist activity and crime.

The events are presented by trained police advisers delivering a range of counter terrorism awareness modules, which in turn will allow participants to consider their own procedures for dealing with terror related incidents.

In addition, Cornwall Council’s Resilience & Emergency Management team will give a short presentation setting out the wider ‘emergency preparedness’ considerations for event organisers. This brief will assist organisers to prepare and deliver a safer event, having given appropriate consideration and planning for the wider impacts of emergencies on, or as a result of, their event. The necessity for multi-agency liaison and planning, especially with the emergency services, is an important factor.  This is included in the overall timings shown on the event invitation fliers attached.

If you would like to attend please reply with your chosen venue and time directly to ctsa@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk  Please include your name, event/business you are representing and contact details.

Please note you must be registered to attend and all replies must be sent to ctsa@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk

With great humour, wit, and fascinating stories, these remarkable lives are explored in this memorable piece of theatre.
