Please provide your feedback

The City of Barrie is reviewing two by-laws and is seeking residents' feedback to help guide updates.

Sign By-law

Barrie's Sign By-law was created in 1999 to regulate outdoor advertising sign use. Since then, the sign industry has changed in many ways including technological advancements in the appearance and function of signs, and easy access to produce cheap, disposable signage.

Please share your views on outdoor sign advertising through the Sign By-law Review Survey, which seeks your opinions on various sign types—including billboards, mobile and temporary—to help guide by-law updates.

The survey closes on July 31, 2017. Results will guide any by-law updates necessary to maintain a visually attractive streetscape and ensure safety for both vehicles and pedestrians, while fulfilling business marketing needs.

Transportation Industry By-law

Barrie's Transportation Industry By-law came into effect in 2007 and sets out licensing criteria specifically related to taxicabs. Since then, the industry has expanded to include rideshare and driver for hire transportation services, which currently do not fall under any by-law.

The City is preparing to update the by-law on August 1, 2017. If you've recently used a taxicab, rideshare, or driver for hire company in Barrie, please provide your feedback via the Transportation Industry Survey.

The survey closes on October 1, 2017. Results collected prior to August will become the baseline to compare experiences with after the updates begin. All information gathered will guide any updates necessary for a comprehensive Transportation Industry By-law that ensures public safety, maintains ride service levels and creates competitive rates for all transportation companies in Barrie.

At the City of Barrie, decisions are made on a daily basis that impact you — residents, business owners, students and visitors to our community. MyBarrie provides you with an online space to learn about and participate in initiatives that are open for public input.
