Updates to NVS (NANOOS Visualization System)
New Data Online: Buoy / Sensor Deployments
Several new instruments have been deployed within the last month, including the NDBC Washington buoy (offshore Washington), the CMOP Saturn02 mooring (Columbia Estuary), and the OSU CB-06 mooring (6 NM W of Coos Bay, Oregon).
Additionally, Taylor Shellfish Hatchery sensors (Dabob Bay, Hood Canal) are back online; these instruments target ocean acidification observations including pCO2, pH, and aragonite saturation state. Data coming from these assets can be found on NVS.

LiveOcean Model on IOOS EDS Model Viewer
The LiveOcean model has been added to the IOOS EDS Model Viewer for simulations of currents, salinity, water temperature, and winds. This portal includes model outputs and observations from around the globe that contribute to ocean monitoring.

Upwelling Indices Added to Climatology App
The Bakun upwelling indices and anomalies have been added to the NVS Climatology App, for the geographic range of 42°N 125°W to 48° 125°W. This index is a measurement of the volume of water that upwells along the coast due to geostrophic winds, calculated from surface atmospheric pressure fields.

NANOOS will be hosting its annual Governing Council meeting on Aug 11 in Vancouver, WA with representatives from various organizations. NANOOS Community Workshop
Over 60 people attended the NANOOS workshop in Newport, OR on July 13. During the one-day workshop, participants learned about what NANOOS is doing and explored NANOOS products and services including NANOOS' data portal, the NANOOS Visualization System and its many topical specialized apps. Most importantly, the participants provided us with helpful feedback on our products. We look forward to implementing some useful modifications. Participants hailed from diverse sectors, including fishers, boaters, maritime operators, managers, scientists, shellfish growers, and educators.

NANOOS Aids Student Build Buoys
High school students participating in NOAA Science Camp's Junior Leadership Program (JLP) were immersed in various ocean science field research experiences, including a week-long buoy building and data collection project facilitated by NANOOS education staff, Amy Sprenger. The camp, directed by Washington Sea Grant, is held at NOAA's Seattle Sand Point facility each July. Students designed, built, and deployed their own buoys in Lake Washington. After analyzing their data, students present their findings to parents and staff. NANOOS looks forward to this new generation of ocean observers.

Reaching Recreational Boaters
On June 21, NANOOS Outreach Specialist Rachel Wold presented the NVS "Boaters App" during a regular meeting of the Puget Sound Yacht Club in Seattle, WA. The NVS Boaters App offers a number of features, including near-real time weather and sea state observations, forecasts, routing capabilities and marine information to help keep boaters safe on the water.

Expanding Our Public Audience
The NOAA Open House offered NANOOS staff with a great opportunity to reach out to the general public. Attendees included many families who were able to use NVS, provide feedback, and learn about different products and services that NANOOS provides. Held June 9th in Seattle, WA, NANOOS was pleased to be invited to participate in this major outreach event.
