Azores Whale Watching – April 2017

Recent Testimonial

"We had a fabulous time [anniversary trip to Belize].  Covered a lot of ground and had some down time as well.  It's a super interesting culture with all of the diversity.  And especially beautiful.  Caracol was definitely the highlight for me along with the flora and fauna.  The butterflies were beyond beautiful and they were everywhere!!!"

Secrets of Shoulder Season

When anyone asks about our favorite time to travel, the answer almost always involves shoulder season.  Along with smaller crowds and less expensive accommodations, shoulder season can be prime for wildlife viewing.

Weather often dictates shoulder season and the transition between seasons, e.g. dry versus green season in Costa Rica, is just starting then.

Summer travel season will wind down in the next few weeks, but don’t store luggage just yet.  Fall shoulder season at many destinations in our portfolio is just around the corner.

Azores Explorer

The Azores archipelago, a group of nine islands some 800 miles from mainland Portugal, ranks as one of the world’s top whale and dolphin-watching destinations. One third of all cetacean species either inhabit or migrate through Azorean waters. The islands themselves are a nationally protected area designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2009.

In addition to prime wildlife viewing close to shore, visitors to the Azores can expect gorgeous beaches, dazzling blue lakes, bubbling hot springs, scenic waterfalls, active volcanoes, and sprawling green pastures. Join us for an unforgettable spring escape to the Azores!

Trip Highlights:

Whale Watching - April is prime time for baleen whales like blue, fin and humpback. Sperm whales are year-round residents. Dolphins, sea turtles, and a variety of birds make regular appearances.

Swimming With Dolphins - Encountering dolphins in their natural environment is an experience that is sure to create memories that last a lifetime

Lake Activities - Hiking, kayaking and soaking in thermal pools.
