Slavery Remembrance Day

23rd August
International Slavery Museum, Liverpool

FREE ENTRY

On this day in 1791 the fight to end the European transatlantic slave trade began. The date has been designated by UNESCO as Slavery Remembrance Day, a reminder that enslaved Africans were the main agents of their own liberation.

Events like those held at the International Slavery Museum, allow us to consider and remember the many legacies and achievements of people of African heritage throughout the diaspora.

Their annual celebrations include the walk of remembrance, a libation on the waterfront and the Dorothy Kuya Slavery Remembrance Lecture.

The full programme of events for Slavery Remembrance Day 2017 can be found here.
