PRISM Meets BMOP

PRISM's most recent release, "WAYNE PETERSON: TRANSFORMATIONS," comes from the Boston Modern Orchestra Project under Gil Rose. The album presents Peterson's Pulitzer Prize-winning orchestral work, The Face of the Night, the Heart of the Dark, in its first commercial recording. And the Winds Shall Blow features the PRISM Quartet, and Transformations is a classic glimpse into a rigorously inventive compositional mind. Now available from iTunes and BMOP/Sound.

CD Reviews

Check out these recent reviews of "Color Theory" with So Percussion and Partch on XAS, and "Gavin Bryars: The Fifth Century" with The Crossing under Donald Nally on ECM.

PRISM Quartet: Color Theory
"Such bold ventures are nothing new to a group who gives new meaning to the word intrepid. Every recording, it seems, finds PRISM exploring inspired ideas and adventurous territory... Among the many things to recommend about Color Theory is PRISM's willingness to share the stage with others. Never does the recording feel like a group recording featuring guests but instead fully integrated ensemble performances wherein PRISM and its collaborators blend magnificently. The quartet always performs in service to the music in play, yet distinguishes itself all the more for realizing its diverse projects with humility.

New PRISM Quartet Album is More About Sounds Than Colors
"I was particularly drawn to 'Future Lilacs'... when I realized that the melodic contour of upper harmonics coming out of Johnson’s guitar work amounted to an instrumental version of [Ueno's] throat singing techniques."

Gavin Bryars’ “The Fifth Century” CD
"The singers of the chorus known as The Crossing, led by Donald Nally, catch both the suavity and luster of Bryars’ writing... and they buff the texts to a winning shine. The saxophone music, perfumed here with graceful ardor by the Prism Quartet, serves as a sort of gilt frame, creating a beautiful and slightly glittery platform and then discreetly bowing out when the vocal writing grows more intense. The cumulative effect is at once modern and antiquarian."
Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Chronicle, February 2017
