SHL News for August 2017

Special Rate for AA Convention and a Debate at CofC

These are exciting times for freethinkers in the Lowcountry, so exciting that I can't even wait a few days and am sending out this August news announcement in July.  

It was just last month that SHL hosted the American Humanist Association conference in North Charleston.  (Click here to see some of the pictures from that event.)  And soon the American Atheists National Convention will be here as well.

One nice surprise is that American Atheists is offering a special registration rate of $100 for South Carolinians, and our neighbors in Georgia and North Carolina as well.  You can get that rate by using this secret registration form.  [They have asked that we not mention the special rate on social media, so please try to keep it off of your feeds and out of your tweets.]

I am also pleased to announce that our own Herb Silverman will be moderating a debate between Wallace Marshall and former American Atheists president Ed Buckner on the question(s) "Is America a Christian Nation?  Was it ever?  Should it be?"  The debate, which is free and open to the public, will be at 7PM on August 17th in the auditorium of the School of Sciences and Mathematics Building at the College of Charleston (at the corner of Calhoun and Coming Streets).  It would be great to see all of you there for what promises to be an entertaining and enlightening evening.  Please add it to your calendars.
