Enjoy a cool, literary afternoon with local authors, snacks, and books on Saturday August 26th at the Open Book, 671 Maltman Drive in Grass Valley at 1pm.

Join Linda Horning reading from Buhari: A Family Odyssey in Nepal, Matt Powers reading from Ghosts of Manor House, Hock Tjoa reading from The Battle of Chibi, Lisa Redfern reading from Phases of Gage, Tim Murray reading from Thumar, Ken Harris reading from How Throckmorton Quattlebottom Became King of North San Juan, Shelley Buck reading from East, along with Ron Cherry, Janet Collins and more.

September 3: Come enjoy a cool afternoon of wine, flute, author readings (and signings) and community on Sunday, September 3rd at 3 p.m. at the Open Book, 671 Maltman Drive in Grass Valley with Women’s Writing Salon producers Julie Valin and Joan Keyes. The featured writers are Kirsten Casey, Gail Entrekin, Patricia Dove Miller, and Angela Sells. Suggested donation of $5–10, but no one will be turned away.

September 14: Yuba Lit The Art of the Short Story at 7 p.m. at the National Hotel in Nevada City. Featuring Nevada City’s own acclaimed Josh Weil (The Age of Perpetual Light) and Louis B. Jones (Radiance, Particles and Luck), and Bay Area writer Marilyn Abildskov (The Men in My Country). As always, Yuba Lit will feature five audience flash readers. Seating is cabaret style; admission is $10, with 50% of proceeds going to PEN Center USA.

September 29: Previous San Francisco poet laureate devorah major, two-time American Book Award winner Alejandro Murguía, and current Sacramento poet laureate Indigo Moor will read from their current works at the Open Book at 7pm. Sierra Writers members will receive a special discount (suggested donation of $5 instead of the public price of $10).

Fiction critique group

This group is actively seeking new members. Critique includes editing comments as well as structural and narrative suggestions. We hope you’ll join us!

Nonfiction critique group
This group currently meets on the third Friday of every month. For information, contact Jan Westmore (530) 265-0718; jwestmore@sbcglobal.net

 
Lake Wildwood Writers Workshop
This group meets on the first Monday of each month at 2 p.m. in the Manzanita Room in the Recreation Center. Poetry, fiction, memoirs of about 500 words are read by the author (bring copies for others) and discussed in a genteel fashion. Contact Hock at wildwoodwritersgroup@gmail.com (special purpose address) if interested and need to be called into the gated community.

     Amy has been working the Early Childhood Education field for over 20 years. When not teaching, she enjoys writing poetry, lyrics, and short stories.

     Angela is a women's studies professor and co-founder of the Open Book Press. Her first book, Sabina Spielrein: The Woman and the Myth, was published by SUNY Press this year.
