If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

Class News

Sea Horse

IQ THEME : Birds
EQ THEME: Taking responsibility for our success and failures.
Happy Monday!!!! I’m sure everyone had a well-rested weekend. We are now in week 2 of term 3 and our class is running quite smoothly. The Seahorses are back in routine and following our daily routine.
Last week I introduced a new way of discipline in order to help some of the children to control their emotions. Perhaps some children came home and spoke about a behaviour chart on our wall?
From a Mon - Friday each child will get a smiley face next to their name if they have been polite, listened well, been kind etc. If they have at least 3 smileys a week, they will receive a treat on a Friday after rest time. The children have been excited to achieve and the behaviour modification chart is working well.
For the week ahead we still have our theme birds as we do 1 theme per 2 weeks. We have already completed our individual art pieces for the art auction to take place 1 September 2017, any queries about the auction feel free to ask me.
Sharon (a student) will be joining our class this week. Tuesday she will read a story. Wednesday set out art tables, and Thursday she will do a music and movement session.
Our focus number has moved to number 4 this week. The seahorses are really doing so well at identifying their numbers now. They have also enjoyed a new quiet play activity- it is a sheet that I have made with a dot to dot guideline with numbers 1-5 on it, they practice holding a koki-pen which helps those who struggles with pencil grip, they are also learning to identify numbers, practising to draw the numbers and there is a little open space where they can draw the number without a dot to dot guideline.
LAUNDRY ROSTER»»»» up on our door, please fill in the child’s name if you are willing to wash our doll area clothing.
SNACK TIME»»»» no sweets, fizzy drinks and chips allowed, please put in a healthy snack.
EXTRA CLOTHING»»»» in case of any accidents please ensure your child has an extra set of clothing.
Dates to diarise.

EQ: Taking responsibility for actions and belongings
General: Road Safety and Transport
Letter: T tiger, telephone, talk
Maths: Calendar No 1-10. No before/ after count on / backward
            Grade R number 6

The children were very happy to be back at school . Zandri Maritz Minaar has joined our class and the children were delighted to have a new child in the class.  They all participated eagerly in the various activities, games and lessons.  They loved helping with the mosaic projects for the Art Auction. We are making a photo frame, flower pot and a mirror. I have posted pics on our class Whatsapp and on FB. The Art Auction takes place on Friday 1 September. Every two years our school does this fund raising event. Each child makes an individual picture which you can buy and the class work as a group to make the other items. Please diarise this date and try and attend as it is always a great and fun filled evening

In our EQ discussions last week we spoke about taking responsibility for personal belongings and for the toys and creative materials in the class. We have done this all year but the children need constant reminding about this. The children are expected to help tidy the table where they worked and to pick up papers that fall on the floor. They need to learn to be responsible for their actions and that there are consequences for their behaviour. This is with regard to play time both inside and outside and especially during discussions and lessons. Since it is third term and the class know the rules when sitting on the mat I have explained that I am not going to give 3 warnings any more, just one and the second time they move their name onto the sad cloud. They will then stay indoors for 10 minutes and do a drawing or build a puzzle. It has worked well this week and discussions are running smoothly with greater and improved concentration from most of the children.
The children have loved the Transport/ Road Safety theme and showed a great interest in olden day ships, cars and aeroplanes. They were able to sort and classify the various types of transport and were able to notice their similarities and differences.
I was very happy to see that the children settled back into the routine with ease and recalled all the numbers and maths concept we learned in term 1 and 2. They enjoyed making patterns with shapes and various objects and were able to make patterns using different coloured cars. They still struggle to make their own written patterns but this will come with time and practise.
This week our Gr R concept is number 6 so we will be doing songs and rhymes about the number 6 as well as knowing how to write it and where it comes on the number line. After 5, before 7, it's 2 more than 4, comes between 5 and 7, etc

Our Letter is T t. Please send things in for the table.
SKILL TO TEACH Many children do not know how to tie their shoelaces and so this term I have given them all a challenge to lean to tie their shoelace. Please help to teach them this skill. It is a life skill and those that can do it are so proud of themselves.
Please remember to pack a change of clothing as the equipment is often wet. Pack the clothes in a plastic bag and label it with your child's name.  These clothes can be left at school.
Have a wonderful week
Love
 Dee and Merle

Starfish

EQ:  Going for Goals:  Taking responsibility for our successes/failures
IQ:  Proudly South African and People from other countries
Focus:  Fine motor skills - Pencil grip, control, ability to add detail, cutting skills
Number Concepts:  Consolidate numbers 1-9 from last term, Introduce South African rands (notes/coins), Heavy/Light, Long/Short
The Starfish class thoroughly enjoyed their first week back at school.  They are very excited about the Art Auction on Friday 1 September and have already begun their individual art and we have completed 1 of our mosaics.  The children so enjoyed doing the mosaic and were all eager to participate.
We continue to discuss "Proudly South African and People from other countries" this week.  They have so enjoyed learning about our country and other countries around the world.  I have been blown away by the general knowledge they have about other places around the world and they have made me smile with some of the funny things they have shared.  Please remember our dress up day on Friday 4th August.  They can be proudly South African or they can dress up as someone from another country.  Please see photo's up in the classroom for ideas.  I have organised a special visitor to come to our school, which is a surprise for the children.
We have begun discussing "Going for Goals" and what a goal is.  Please encourage your child to choose an age-appropriate goal and place it in the box above the drying rack.  Our class goal is "Tying our shoelaces" so this may not be their personal goal.  They need to choose something else.  E.g. Skipping with a rope, hoola hooping, riding a bicycle without training wheels, doing a handstand/cartwheel
Continue to play number games with your children to broaden their understanding of numbers and concepts.  Do little activities to strengthen their fine motor skills e.g. pegging washing, folding socks, threading beads, puzzles, play dough, lego
When your child draws and cuts, keep an eye on their pencil grip, correcting them if necessary.  Encourage them to add more detail and colour.  When cutting encourage them to cut slowly and follow the outline closely.
Dates to Diarise:
4 August - Dress up as Proudly SA or People from other countries
9 August – Women’s Day - School holiday
18 August - Penguin/Rainbow cake sale
25 August - NAPTOSA Conference - Teachers will be away - Assistants will be taking them class
1 September - Art Auction
Wishing you a happy, fun filled week
