5th Annual
National African-American Hep C Action Day

July 25th was the 5th Annual National African American Hepatitis C Action Day #NAAHCAD. NBLCA and COPE hosted a successful event at Harlem Hospital, with outreach and testing, presentations, and webinars. Read more here.

Health Department World Hepatitis Day Press Release

City Council demonstrated its commitment to hepatitis elimination by continuing support for the Viral Hepatitis Initiative, which has improved health care access for over 8,000 New Yorkers at risk for or living with hepatitis B or C, and trained over 800 clinical providers. Read the full press release here.
The NYC Council FY2018 Budget includes $1,456,158 for the "Viral Hepatitis Initiative" (a small increase from FY2017) which will be increased to $2,275,229 by state match! See the FY2018 Budget here (page 41).

NYS Department of Health
Releases Hep C Treatment Guidelines

The NYS Department of Health has developed and released a guidelines on screening, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic Hep C infection for primary care providers.

NYC Hep B Coalition  Attends the Hep B United Summit

Over World Hepatitis Day, an NYC Hep B Coalition delegation traveled to DC for the annual Hep B United Summit.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT: Check Hep B

The Check Hep B Patient Navigation Program links NYC residents living with Hep B to medical care and provides clinical care coordination to support patients to complete Hep B medical evaluation and undergo treatment if recommended. The program is funded by New York City Council and is administered by the NYC Health Department. From January 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017, Check Hep B has enrolled 715 patients living with Hep B. In this time, 685 patients completed Hep B medical evaluation and most treatment candidates started treatment. Read more about the program, and how to refer patients, here.
