Luke Buescher Uganda

Dear Friends and Family,
I pray this letter finds you abiding in the love and joy of our Savior.

Well, it's crazy to think that it's already been over a month since I wrote my last update. Let me try to catch you up on what this last month has brought.

Matt, Noelle, Emma, Matilyn, and I arrived in Uganda on June 30th at 10:00PM. I found my bags (thankfully, all of which made it to the airport), and was happy to find we had transportation to a hotel for the evening. The following day we were picked up by Russell, a staff member here at new hope, and made the hour and a half drive out to New Hope Uganda. After arriving  I had two days to get familiar with the institute site, a small portion of the 40 to 60 acres which make up an orphanage, and primary school called New Hope Uganda. Classes started on July 3rd, and I've had plenty to do since then. There are 22 students in the institute this semester, 4 westerners and the rest nationals. Everyone in the class is either a ministry worker with New Hope Uganda, a Missionary, or a Ugandan pastor/elder. Our first week of class was an introduction, and we got to hear the testimonies of all of our classmates and teachers. It's amazing just how different Africa really is from the states, I felt privileged and humbled to hear the life stories of each of my classmates. After that, the next two weeks have been focused on African and Western western worldviews. The unique opportunity of learning along side Ugandan nationals gives an open window into how someone from Africa processes, learns, and teaches.
This is the "Banda" that I will call home for the next five months. a "Banda" is small circular house, equipped with a detached pit latrine, and an open air bucket shower room attached to the side of the structure.
God has also blessed us with an incredible language teacher whose name is Jane Aol. Now an accountant for New Hope, Jane actually used to work at the medical clinic which is now run by "Terebinth Ministries" in Gulu. Jane is an Acoli, and speaks the language fluently. She's been kind enough to give us lessons twice a week, and God has been very gracious to open our understanding to the Language. After the third lesson, we have over 150 words memorized, and can form complete sentences! Please continue to keep us in your prayers in this area.

last Saturday, Matt and I had the chance to spend some time learning to Ox plow. It's amazing how much of a difference a small piece of technology, and the right animal can make.

Most of the people that live around here still plow by hand and it takes them weeks, for some fields even a full month of hard work before they can plant. With the Ox plow you can prepare a field in 1-4 days.
There's much more to share, however, I'm trying to keep my updates a little smaller and therefore quicker to read.
Please keep me in your prayer. I know that it is "not by power, nor by might, but by My Spirit, says the Lord." (Zech 4:6), and that I have nothing but what I have received from God (1 Cor 4:7), so please keep praying for us! God moves through prayer! God Bless!
