The Senate passed a motion to proceed to start debate on healthcare reform. While the Better Care Reconciliation Act (BCRA) was voted down by 43-57, the efforts continue. A scaled-down version of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) – known as the “Skinny Repeal” – is still possible. Even if that fails, efforts to cut Medicaid and other services essential to the lives and liberty of people with disabilities are likely to continue.
Yesterday marks the 27th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) being signed into law. While we celebrate this momentous achievement that created so many opportunities for the disability community we must continue our efforts to save Medicaid and other essential health benefits. On the anniversary of the ADA we’d much rather be pushing to further increase the inclusion of people with disabilities in society, but playing defense to protect our rights and services is just as important.
Honor the ADA by Continuing the Fight to Save Healthcare!
Keep up the visits, calls, tweets, and emails to your Senators. Please ask your friends, family, and colleagues to do the same. We need every Senator to keep hearing how these efforts will harm millions of individuals. We know we’ve asked this of you many times, but your efforts have made a difference! The efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act began back in January – we are still fighting this fight today because of advocates like you who haven’t given up. Please keep it up.
