August News from JOF

Hi Friends. August, as always, is a busy time here at JOF. We're now in final preparations for our 2017-18 Orthopedic Primary Care Course, which kicks off Aug. 21. This year because people are often on summer vacation this month, we've decided to extend our application deadline to Aug. 14 to allow a bit more time for people to apply.

We're also enjoying mentoring our summer interns, who've spend the last month shadowing our preceptors -- talented Bay Area clinicians who are volunteering their time to support our educational mission.

And, because it's top travel season we're happy to offer JOF's Top Travel Tips -- let's all stay safe out there!

We hope you find our newsletter useful and we invite you to continue to follow us on social media. In the meantime, we wish you a happy and healthy summer.

Yours in good health,

Kathleen Geier, DNP and AJ Benham, DNP

About OPC
Now entering its fourth year, OPC comprises 250+ hours of professional education over six months beginning August 21.

OPC prepares clinicians to diagnose and manage common orthopedic conditions in primary care settings, along with providing participants both the practical skills that contribute better patient outcomes as well as increased confidence treating musculoskeletal patients. The OPC curriculum emphasizes non-surgical, patient-centered approaches to maximizing function, managing pain, preventing injury, and slowing disease progression.

Have you met our summer interns? They're a diverse group of talented students from a variety of backgrounds and interests. Our intern program is designed to provide these students an immersion experience in healthcare, allowing them to explore various health fields while shadowing experienced providers as they treat patients. Whether a student is interested in becoming a nurse, a physician, a physician assistant, or a physical or occupational therapist, this internship allows each student the chance to witness the unique aspects of each professional role. Meet our 2017 interns here.

... and Meet our Preceptors

Preceptor:  Noun, an instructor; teacher; tutor.
Our summer interns are learning about career options by shadowing some of the finest clinicians in the Bay Area. What you may not know is that our preceptors – the professionals who guide our students – actually volunteer their time to help us fulfil our educational mission.

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank them. Our intern program wouldn’t be the same without their generous donation of time and expertise. Meet them on our blog.

JOF's Top Travel Tips!
It’s peak summer travel season – when the whole family’s attention turns to sun, surf and time away from the daily grind. But for too many of us, vacations can also bring bone, muscle and joint injuries.

We're happy to offer our top tips for summer fun minus the pain, as well as opportunities to keep up your good health habits from home – even a bit of holiday disease prevention.
